Top 5 Home Video Logos

The Best VHS Logos Ever

Well gang, I'm back. For some reason, a Micheal Jackson song that I heard from the previews of a certian movie made me think about the openings of videos, so I decided to pick the top 5 greatest home video logos ever to be pre-recorded on VHS tapes.

5. UAV Corporation (1991-???)

Both the 1989 and 1991 logos were awesome, because they were on one of my favorite broken videotapes, "Old MacDonald (4 Sing-Alongs Down On The Farm)". What's cooler is the slow Worldvision-like WHOOOSHHH! It's like a UAV copter! (pun intended). Allthough I sometimes confused the name with an auto union when I was little, it was still a great way to think about eagles, and more importantly to anticiapate an old cartoon.

4. Paramount Home Video/Feature Presentation Bumper/ Warning (1988-2006)

Even though it scared a number of people, I like Paramount's many fanfares (including the generic ones used on old cartoon end titles). And this is a top one, second only to "Paramount on Parade". This is probably the first or second longest running home video logo in U.S. prints. It was a great way to start a Peanuts or Nickelodeon tape for many reasons. This logo retired when the last Nickelodoen VHS tape was released.
The standard variant went like this: The Paramount print logo moved it's squares with an announcer saying "And now we're pleased to bring you our Feature Presentation", which zoomed in to the copyright warning.

3. Random House Home Video (1986-????)

This logo brings back memories of Arhtur, Dr. Seuss, Berenstien Bears, and Sesame Street tapes. I liked the jingle, you could easily scat the first 9 or something notes like the 60's "Batman" theme and then go do-do-do for the rest of the jingle. It's really catchy. While this may have scared some- the zooming in of "Home Video" may be reminscent of the zooming of "A Viacom Presentation" in the Viacom V of Doom, I'm glad I only grew up with the Wigga-Wigga logo, and I was never scared. I dig the rainbow colors on the house. But what's up with the purple background? Allthough I didn't see it until 4th grade, it looks like it came straight out of the 1987 funding credits of "Reading Rainbow". But still, a timeless cheesy logo. I loved this logo like a kid liking the original film version of "Where The Red Fern Grows".

2. Walt Disney Home Video (1986-2000)

Ahh, yes the first home video logo I ever saw. It brought back so many memories. It was on a lot of my Disney Sing-Along Songs and Spot tapes, if not nearly all of them.

It was the calming logo, so clean, peaceful and serene when played at the right time, and the right volume. It is a logo you can play with a short-lived logo at the end of the previews. No "Classics" logos, just the plain text. Adding "Presents" is also a great 1 second extension. This logo helped me like Schoolhouse Rock, heck I still learned a lot from that oldie.

And the number one home video logo is.....

1. Warner Home Video (1985-1996)

I like the synth "BOOM" note that zooms off the time lapse clouds, almost like a Rugrats opening camera angle. This logo means you're in for a treat with a big huge bombastic synthisizer rendition of Max Stenier's Warner Bros. fanfare. While the current WHV logo is good for boxsets, it ruled the VHS era. And having the thin WB shield be in gold is just.....something. This brings back memories of "Animaniacs" VHS tapes, especially "Animaniacs Sing-Along: Yakko's World". A funny memory that I have is when I had my first eyedrops to get my first glasses the summer before kindergarten, the Free Willy previews were over on the video so while I waited for my eyes to get better from the drops, the first thing I saw with my blurry vision was- this logo. This is one 80's tune that didn't give me bad vibes when I was little, considering 80's stuff was nearly "retro" in the 90's.

Well, all I can say is

What about Tr-Star when the flying horse came from the left and jumped over the Tri-Star logo was always my favorite.

The Disney one was burned into the inside of my eyelids long ago.

Dude. I really dig the minimalism of this one. You're taking a tiny, tiny slice of memory and breaking it down. You done good.

    hi-top video

i really only got 2 out of 6 it was alot of names that should of been there like DIC and orion or MGM but its cool
Benjanime Posted 2 years 5 months ago
and yet nobody's really made a top ten list focusing on commercials and theme songs. at least not for a few years on this site. but again it's a crappy concept. the whole list thing has been a clich'e on this site since the site's new design back in 2006, but this article is worse. sure there have been people making lists of their favorite theme songs, but how far back do you wanna go in the article archives just to see a similar article?
Bandersnatch Posted 2 years 5 months ago
I don't see how this is any stupider than obsessing over commercials and theme songs.
snowtrooper Posted 2 years 5 months ago
i agree, this topic caught me by surprise. but there is a certain nostalgia when thinking about it. i wish i could remember some of the names of the logos that have really stuck in my mind
WaveBoy Posted 2 years 5 months ago
    Where's DIC!? lol
Another one of my favorites is the logo that appears before those earlier 80's TMNT Cartoon VHS tapes, it takesss me wayyy back! ;D

so apparently MoreOreos loves rewinding video tapes, like that VHSer guy who made an early comment on this poor excuse for an article
    PrinceOfRetro23 Posted 2 years 5 months ago
Whoah...this...kind of caught me off guard. I will give you a thumbs up for shared interest, though.
MoreoOreos Posted 2 years 5 months ago
" .....or personal nastalgia behind it....". There is personal nostoliga behind it. I told what it makes me think of inside, and also some real memories behind these logos. Maybe I should have mentioned rewinding these over and over again before YouTube was around, but my MEMORY IS AGING fast. I don't remember as much as I used to.
MoreoOreos Posted 2 years 5 months ago
People, haven't you heard of "YouTube"? People upload these logos, and they also make their own spoofs. Also there are closing logo sites. These logos are retro, too. VHS is an oboslete format, and 4 out of the 5 logos already are in retirement.

I must say... this is a pretty stupid idea for a article.

The fact that (1)... how one came up with the idea in the first place, but no actual history of the logo. (2)... how others are implementing videos into their articles now-a-days, and this is all about home-video intro logos, it would have been nice to see it in motion. (3)... The fact that every picture is a different size (consistancy is nice, you know), is really annoying. Call it a pet peeve of mine, but a lot of articles (from many people here) do that. It's called re-sizing, and it's not that difficult.

Finally... this is just not interesting read. Unless there's some true HISTORY behind it, or personal nastalgia behind it, you just put me (and others) to sleep. Not to mention, you only brought up 5. Not 10... but 5. Sorry man... no offense, but thumbs-down.

I could almost forgive the concept for this article if it was encapsulated in some sort of premise or backed by a personal point of view that brought it all together. Like, "these were my favorite movies as a kid, and whenever I see or hear these bumpers, it reminds me of..." and so on. This is really just a list of 5 random VHS distribution company logos. I don't get it! How does this kind of article get published? I understand that this is an amateur forum, but this kind of drivel belongs on the message boards or some other site entirely.

I don’t mean this complaint to be personal, I am directing the criticism at the article, not the author. Some of us love this site, and don’t want to see it go to crap. I’m not asking for professional masterpieces, but polished, well thought-out articles shouldn’t be too much to ask.
Benjanime Posted 2 years 5 months ago
yeah but you made a list of things that anybody will pass by. they're movie companies, whoop dee doo. i'm sure people care more about the movie that they're about to view than looking at the movie company sign that it comes from
MoreoOreos Posted 2 years 5 months ago
No flaming over this, please. Though I do apperciate some of the postive comments, especially the likes of Melkat, MrNostoliga, and Nails105.

Benjanime Posted 2 years 6 months ago
wow, a list of opening logos? well, at least this one isn't scared of any closing logos like the trolls that are found on the forums, but still, commemorating a list of logos for video companies? how is this taking so much interest? each logo that's shown is like a five second viewing, then it shows the copyright info and that's it. it doesn't matter to the viewer who's watching the movie that the copyright logo comes from. so why, may i ask is this an idea for an article?
extremepenguin Posted 2 years 6 months ago
It's too bad there's so many assholes on this site. :)
mikemonmouth Posted 2 years 6 months ago
hi tops son! and the one with the balloons, can't remember the name
trey mulligan Posted 2 years 6 months ago
walt disney home video is creppy
fuddwupper Posted 2 years 6 months ago
blueluigi - "It's too bad there's so many idiots on this site"

    Are you including yourself?

Nice idea for the article by the way, but its hard to know what your talking about when there are no videos
blueluigi Posted 2 years 6 months ago
It's too bad there's so many idiots on this site. Otherwise, this article would probably fall on the back page.
    LOL785 Posted 2 years 6 months ago
Blueluigi, I second that notion :P
    matt82 Posted 2 years 6 months ago
blueluigi you are a freakin retard just like the person that wrote this arcticle, I am quite fond of the old school VHS bumpers. My personal favorite's being 20th Century Fox Tristar when the unicorn used to gallop at you on the screen oh and Columbia thanks to Ghostbusters. Now that I think of it the only bad thing about this arcticle is the lack of bumpers mentiond like Carolco and Hollywood pictures.

The best home video logo of all time has to go to Family Home Entertainment. It was on every TMNT VHS tape way back when. I watched the hell out of them and fondly remember it.

It's defiantly a unique idea for an article I'll give you that.
    Nails105 Posted 2 years 6 months ago
I remember all of these logos, except for the UAV logo, which I discovered about a year ago. You should've talked about how UAV created a handful of low-budget animated cartoons that ripped off of much better anmated films, like Anastasia was "The Secret of Anastasia" and Hercules was "The Amazing Feats of Young Hercules". I have all of them on DVD, just for the sheer cheesiness.

Oh, yeah. Thumbs up. At least this idea is better than all of those Top 10 Cartoons used again and again.
VHSer Posted 2 years 6 months ago
The universal logos have always creeped me out. I used to have bad nightmare about the huge flying letters coming at me.
Melkat Posted 2 years 6 months ago
Wow! What is with all the hate? Like your 1 article was all great, blueluigi. Jeez!
blueluigi Posted 2 years 6 months ago
Wow. An article on Home Video logos. Not only is that one of the most retarded ideas for an article, but it's very poorly written. So much little effort is put into this and too many pictures are used for this article as well.

Do yourself a favor and stop writing articles. You've already shown your faggotry enough with this article, and there doesn't need to be any more.
