90s kid

the 90s was the time of my life

like roadgeek, i am a serious 90's kid. all of the things we grew up with were what we remember the most. i was born in april 1990, so i can remember most of the things on tv in the 90s. i always watched nickelodeon and tuned in for legends of the hidden temple, figure it out, rockos modern like, kablam, are you afraid of the dark, the adventures of pete and pete, and TONS more. but my favorite was doug. i also watched disneys one saturday moring, and cartoon network , which held one of my favorites, the real adventures of johnny quest. now when i think back, i cant get my mind off of these things. as the years went on, i went into middle school, where everyone was dissing cartoons because they are "too cool" for them. then i watched the disney channel where i spent my middle school years learning and relating to tv shows like lizzie mcguire, smart guy, boy meets world, and even stevens. now, i will be an upperclassman in high school, where i cant even watch any of this anymore. so bad i want to go back in time and be a little kid again. nowadays im watching espn, that 70s show, king of the hill, family guy and so on. the other day i watched half an episode of lizzie mcguire, the episode where she becomes the advice collumist and gordo at the end almost has the guts to tell her he likes her. that reminded me of how simple it was to get by life when you were younger. those were the good days and i will always cling to the memories of doug funnie and tommy pickels.

Heres to the 90s! *raises glass*

o yea im sure you guys already saw this but i just found it. i can relate to just about everything on here:

your a 90s kid if:

theres a monster under your bed and the only person who can save you is quailman

You've ever ended a sentence with the word "PSYCHE!"

You just cant resist finishing this... "Iiiiiiin west philladelphia born and raised..."

You remember TGIF on ABC. Step by Step, Family Matters, Dinosaurs, and Boy Meets World.

"Miss Susie had a steam boat, the steam boat had a bell..miss suzie went to heaven the steamboat went to hell_o operator please give me number 9 and if you disnconnect me i'll kick you from behind the fridgerator, there was a piece of glass, miss suzie sat upon it and broke her little ***_k me no more questions, please tell me no more lies the boys are in the bathroom zipping up their flies, are in the city the bees are in the park .......................... miss suzie and her boyfriend are kissing in the D-A-R-K- D-A-R-K D-A-R-K dark dark dar dar da dark"

You remember when Kurt Cobain, 2Pac, River Phoenix, and Selena died.

You know that "WOAH" comes from Joey from "Blossom" and that "How Rude!" comes from Stephanie from "Full House"

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early
on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.

You remember reading "Goosebumps"

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school.

You danced to "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls, Females: had a new motto, Males: got a whole lot gay-er. (so tell me what you want, what you really really want.)

You remember the craze, then the banning of slap bracelets and slam books.

You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence...Not...

You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record "Your FAVORITE song of ALL time"

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? was both a game and a TV game show.

Captain Planet.

You knew that Kimberly, the pink ranger, and Tommy, the green Ranger were meant to be together.

When playing power rangers with friends you fought over who got to be who............and still all ended up being Tommy.

You remember when super nintendo's became popular.

You always wanted to send in a tape to America's Funniest Home Videos... but never taped anything funny.

You remember watching home alone 1, 2 , and 3........and tried to pull the pranks on "intruders"

"I've fallen and I can't get up"

When you have played and beaten mario brothers/duck hunt.

If you ever watch cheers.

You remember going to the skating rink before there were inline skates

if you memeber when every thing was "da BOMB"

when they made the new lunchables so that you could make tacos and pizza!!

You wore socks over leggings scrunched down

You remember boom boxes vs. cd players

Writing M.A.S.H. notes. (and the twenty different versions of that)

Making those little fortune cookie things.. and then predicting your life with them.

You remember New Kids on The Block when they were cool

And You Were Obsessed with either 'Nsync or Backstreet Boys. But never NEVER both...

You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved By The Bell"

You played and/or collected "Pogs"

You had at least one Tamagotchi, GigaPet or Nano and brought it everywhere

You haven't always had a computer, and it was cool to have the internet.

You watched the original Care Bears, My Little Pony, and Ninja Turtles

Yikes pencils and erasers were the stuff!

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.(pencils.notebooks.binders.etc.)

You remember when the new Beanie Babies and talking Elmo were always sold out.

You collected those Beanie Babies.

You used to wear those stick on earings, not only on your ears, but at the corners of your eyes.

You remember a time before the WB.

You owned a portable tape player.

If you even know what an original walkman is.

You remember wanting to sit on the orange Nickelodeon couch.

You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

You know the Macarena by heart.

"Talk to the hand" ... enough said

You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!"

You know the significance of the number 23.

You went to McD's to play in the playplace.

You remember playing on merry go rounds...at the play ground.

You remember dreaming to be on a Nickelodeon game show: Double Dare, Nick Arcade, GUTS, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Fun House, Figure It Out, ...

You all know you watched Hey Dude, and Salute Your Shorts...

Remember and You Cant Do That On Television where getting slimed first started!

Who Loves Orange Soda? Kel Loves Orange Soda.. Is it true? I doo I doo I doooo 00000000000

When we were younger:

Before the . frenzy...

Before the Internet & text messaging...

Before Sidekicks & iPods...

Before MIKE JONES...

Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX...

...Back when you put off the 5 hours of homework you had every night.

When light up sneakers were cool.

When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.

When gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing.

When we recorded stuff on VCRs & paid $3.50 for a movie.

When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our walkmans.

When 2Pac and Biggie where alive.

When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever.

Way back.

when it was all about N64.

Before we realized all this would eventually disappear

Who would have thought you'd miss the 90's so much!!!!!

Born in 1990? You are not a 'serious' 90's kid. You are actually barely a 90's kid at all. You probably have basically no memories of 1990-95. 'Serious' 90's kids were born in the mid 80's and were out riding bikes or playing super nintendo while you were crapping your pants or yellin for your mum to come and wipe your butt.

Technically you could be described as a 90's kid, technically. However, serious 90's kids reminisce about 90-95, when life was nothing like millennium. Your memories become half-clear around the time that serious 90's kids don't even think of as the proper 90's. Like 98 and 99, so close to how life was in the year 2000 that these years barely register in our 90's memories.

The fact that you probably disagree with this goes to show how you simply don't understand what it is to be a true 90's kid and you never will.

For school last semester (when I was a Junior in HS) my History teacher had us do an arts project for different eras, each group spanning about 20 years. I got first picks and naturally picked 1990-Present. Simply put it was the best project I've ever done, it was also the most chaotic: When everyone starts singing AC/DC, Trapt, Brittany Spears, SMASHMOUTH and, of course M.C. Hammer; people from the adjacent classes tend to start flooding in to watch. It was a supposed to be a 45 minute presentation, I took an hour and a half and I still had to cut it short.

And just so you know, I linked this article at the end of my power point.

I'm not bashing your article or anything but...over half of those on the list are stuff that 80's kids would remember/recall.I should know,I am an 80's kid.Born in 1979 baby!

Man do I miss those days. My friend and I were just talking about all the songs we used to listen to and the artist of those songs and the shows we used to watch. I adored Nsync. Justin was my all time favortie. Now that I am in highschool everyone is doing the whole to cool for those things anymore, same thing with kids that are in Jr High. I still sit up in my room blasting songs I loved when I was smaller and break out in song with my friends, even in front of kids at school. Im not ashamed to admit that im still into that stuff, even at the age I am now. I looked this up and it brought a smile on my face. I even sang along to te songs. I even still say 'not' and tell people to talk to the hand if im getting annoyed. I even quote Stephanie with her line 'How rude!'. That stuff just sticks.

ok I was born in 1987, and I might be the only person here that consider myself both a 90's AND 80's kid, because I LOVED 80's movies and music growing up in the 90's, mainly because of my older sisters. But I miss the 90's badly, it had the best tv shows (Nickelodeon,Power Rangers, Captain Planet anyone?)..oh man..its not the same now, my favorites on nick were Doug, Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Kablam, Kenan & Kel, All That, Are you afraid of the dark (oh man I use to love that show), loved the games shows Legends of the Hidden Temple, GUTS, Wild & Crazy Kids etc...okay I can go on with nick shows, Cartoon Network was cool too, also this may not be 90's, but I LOVED the 70's Scooby Doo shows. me and my friends use to love to wear JNCO jeans and skechers with the chains in 97-98. yes I was a Giga pet, Nano freak, sadly I never had a Tamagotchi, and I was a pokemon freak. the list goes on about the 90's!

and for the record The Adventures of Pete and Pete owns all!!!
koolwhippa Posted 6 years 3 months ago
Wow. I LOVE you for this article! I mean, REALLY...I dont think you left a SINGLE stone unturned, EXCEPT: the WILDLY popular success of the game "Power Pete" that came to replace good ol' Oregon Trail in the "privileged" klassrooms, and the wildly UNpopluar Sega/SNES/Game Gear release, Shaq Fu. Hahahaha.

    90schild87 Posted 6 years 8 months ago
im an 87 kid myself and i remember all the trends and alot of the crazes that came about in the 90s.
tv was great and the shows were all good.
now sadly nickelodeon, disney, toys and music have all gone to crap.
i see stuff on tv and in stores like tamagotchies.(spellt wrong)
that are being sold as new and improved.
piss, all that stuff crap now, like teenage mutant ninja turtles, the new show sucks.
i miss the 90s and wish i was back there.
ps. the macarena sucked but i miss stuff like that being popular, unlike that f*$@#%g crazy frog.
dalmatianlover Posted 6 years 9 months ago
I can't believe the 90's are history! It doesn't seem like it's been that long since they ended. Yes, I qualify for pretty much all those things you listed, I was 5 years old when the decade started and about to turn 15 when they ended, so I was there!

I miss the 90's terribly. I had sooooooo much fun back then. I was born in 1977 so the first half of the 90's were my high school years and the 2nd half were my "just-graduated-now-an-adult-can-do-anything-I-want-years." Everything was kick-ass: the music, the TV shows, the alt./grunge styles, the movies, the toys, Saturday Night Live (from 1990-1995), most of the cartoons, and even the video games. I got my first playstation in 1997 and I still have it. Even MTV was starting to get better with cool videos and MTV Unplugged, but it soon fell back in its rut permanently. Reading your article, I can remember most of what you mentioned; there were 2 or 3 things I couldn't recall. :P I remember TGIF when "Full House," "Perfect Strangers," and "Growing Pains" were on it...back that was the late 80's, I think. You're the second person now I've read that is reminiscing. This is even more insipiration for me to share my memories with "retrojunk" viewers. Keep up the good work.
TherealRNO Posted 6 years 9 months ago
'Twas born in 1984, so I got BOTH the ending glory days of the 80's, all through the 90's, and up to the now-horrid present.
    dramagirl1990 Posted 6 years 9 months ago
you forget one thing...when you wanted to plant skittles in your backyard so a rainbow would come up and it would rain skittles :-)

such good commercials in the 90's...muchas gracias retro junk!

    90sKid Posted 6 years 9 months ago
I can totally relate! I was born in 87, but the 90's were what I most remember. TV shows were great, everybody loved Disney movies. Nickelodeon and Disney channel showed great shows...
Warden Posted 6 years 9 months ago
    sorry about the typo
Warden Posted 6 years 9 months ago
I thought I was the only one who can relate to this stuff. I grew up in the 90's as well cause I was born in 89 and I remember all this stuff. Those days rocked, I wish things never changed. Great article and I'm glad I'm not the only one who misses the 90's. I miss oregon trail day and I got so pissed off when computer class was over and I wasn't done playing. I also never got to send anything to Anericas funniest home videos.
    pimp3491 Posted 6 years 9 months ago
Great article! Like Toonhead83, I was born in 85 but remember the 90's the most. The best years of my life happened in that decade...its all different today...kids are different, tv is different, everything changed so much...why?
    BIGmike721 Posted 6 years 9 months ago
