Sc-Fi Heroes

My favorite sc-fi heroes
On
August 11, 2010
I've always been a big sc-fi fan and I wanted to do an article on my favorite sc-fi heroes. There are some characters I might have missed out but hopefully Ive got the main ones and popular ones you will like too.

35.Howard The Duck

A scientific experiment unknowingly brings extraterrestrial life forms to the Earth through a laser beam. First is the cigar smoking drake Howard from the duck's planet. A few kids try to keep him from the greedy scientists and help him back to his planet. But then a much less friendly being arrives through the beam. From what I heard Howard wasn't like how he was in the comics but Ive always found the film just a fun family flick which I enjoy. Maybe they should make a cartoon based on it instead.

34.Flash Gordon

In this update of the 1930's comic strip, Flash is a football hero who is skyjacked aboard Dr. Zarkov's rocketship along with beautiful Dale Arden. The threesome are drawn into the influence of the planet Mongo, controlled by Ming the Merciless. Ming has been testing the Earth with unnatural disasters, and deeming it a threat to his rule, he plans to destroy it. He also intends to take Dale as his concubine. Flash must avoid the amorous attentions of Ming's daughter and unite the warring kingdoms of Mongo to rescue Dale and save our world.

33.Wolff

Wolff is an Intergalactic garbage collector and all around hero. I had to put this character in the list since I found Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone so entertaining. Probaly one of the funniest sc-fi B-movie I've ever seen.

32.He-Man

I wasn't sure whether to put this one on the list or not since he's more of a fantasy character but I put him in anyway. He-Man played by Dolph Lungdren is a heroic character featured in the Masters of the Universe franchise. In most variations of the franchise he is the alter ego of Prince Adam and also the twin brother of She-Ra. He-Man and his friends defend Eternia and the secrets of Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor.

31.Terran Empires

A soldier from Earth crashlands on an alien world after sustaining battle damage. Eventually he encounters another survivor but from the enemy species he was fighting they band together to survive on this hostile world. In the end the human finds himself caring for his enemy in a completely unexpected way.

30.Marty McFly

Marty McFly is a typical American teenager of the Eighties and accidentally sent back to 1955 in a plutonium-powered DeLorean "time machine" invented by slightly mad scientist. During his often hysterical, always amazing trip back in time, Marty must make certain his teenage parents-to-be meet and fall in love so he can get back to the future.

29.Alex Rogan

Alex Rogan (played by Lance Guest), an average teenage boy recruited by an alien defence force to fight in an intergalactic war.

28.Kay

Tommy Lee Jones plays Agent K J's grizzled and humorless mentor.

27.Captain Steven Hiller

Will Smith as Captain Steven Hiller: An assured United States Marine Corps F/A-18 pilot at the forefront of the human resistance counter-offensive. His ambition before the alien attack is to join NASA's astronaut training program. Devlin and Emmerich had always envisioned an African-American for the role and specifically wanted Smith after seeing his performance in Six Degrees of Separation.

26.John Murdoch

Murdoch wakes up in a bathtub with no memory and a dead body in the same room. He has no recollection as to how and why he's there. As Murdoch attempts to put the pieces together he notices that at every midnight on the dot, apart from Murdoch himself, every inhabitant in the city falls asleep. It's then that he realizes that something even bigger than his memory loss is taking place. But his worst trouble is the strangers, a series of vastly powerful beings who seem to manipulate just about everything in the city, and want him because of the extraordinary powers he manifested. John decides to find out what is happening in his city; why is it always night? And why can nobody tell him a way to leave the city?

25.Taarna

The Loc-Nar crashes into a volcano changing a tribe of humans into mutated barbarians who ravage a peaceful city. The elders desperately try to summon the last of a warrior race, the Taarakians. Taarna a strong, silent and beautiful warrior maiden arrives too late to stop the massacre and resolves to avenge the city. Her search leads to the barbarians' stronghold where she is captured, tortured and left for dead. With the help of her avian mount she escapes and confronts the barbarian leader. Though wounded she defeats him and in one last effort flies into the Loc-Nar destroying it.

24.Connor Mcloud

Born in the Highlands of Scotland in 1518, Connor Macleod is immortal. When he is wounded in battle but does not die, he is banished from his village. He meets another like himself, Ramirez, who teaches him swordsmanship the only way to kill another immortal is to take his head and the ways of the immortals.
Modern-day New York is the location of "The Gathering," where Connor and the few remaining immortals must battle to the last for "The Prize." Another character I liked was from the film Fortress.

23.Major Motoko Kusanagi

Major Motoko Kusanagi is a Japanese character in the Ghost in the Shell anime and manga series. She is a cyborg employed as the squad leader of Public Security Section 9. Kusanagi's various incarnations in the manga movies and TV series all portray her differently. Since each of these has an independent storyline Kusanagi's physical and mental characteristics have been modified in different ways to reflect the focus of each respective story.

22.Kanada

He drives a mean bike and an attuide to go with it. Hes a teenage delinquent and the leader of a motorcycle gang known as The Capsules briefly referred to as "The Heroics" in the anime adaptation. Kaneda is best friends with Tetsuo, a Capsule member, but that friendship is shattered after Tetsuo gains and abuses his psychic powers. Kaneda is the main hero of Akira. According to Akira Club, Kaneda was inspired by the boy lead from Tetsujin 28. Due to his influence on Tetsuo, Kaneda is the only regular person who without aid can physically hurt him, even after he has gained his powers. Kanada is voiced by Mitsuo Iwata in the Japanese version of the film and then by Cam Clarke in the 1988 English version.

21.Johnny Rico

Johnny Rico joins the military after graduation to become a citizen and for the love of his high school sweetheart. In the war against the bug aliens of Klendathu, the military is a very dangerous place to be. Johnny works his way through several battles and with the help of his friends and comrades, helps turn the tide of the war, and save the human race.

20.Taylor

Taylor played by Charlton Heston is an American astronaut and the leader of a space expedition in the 1968. When his shuttle crash lands he finds his companions missing and has to fight and survive against a world ruled by apes.

19.Trinity

Who can forget the frist time you see Trinity and she does that awseome slow motion kick in the air. It was a memrable scene. Trinity is a computer programmer and a hacker who has escaped from the Matrix, a sophisticated computer program in which most of the human race is imprisoned. Though few specifics are revealed about her previous life inside the Matrix, we are told that Morpheus, one of a number of real-world hovercraft commanders, initially identified her and helped her escape from the program. At the beginning of the series, she is first mate on Morpheus' Nebuchadnezzar and serves mainly as a go-between for him and the individuals he wishes to free from the Matrix. As the series progresses, her primary importance as a character becomes her close relationship with Neo. She is skilled with computers, at operating vehicles both inside and outside the Matrix, and in martial arts.

Throughout the series her true name is never revealed.

18.Sarah Connor

Sarah Connor appears in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, ten years after the events of Terminator. She and John have been separated from each other. John is living in a foster home, and Sarah has been institutionalized in Pescadero State Hospital. In the years between films, she has transformed herself from the mousy, timid woman seen at the beginning of the first movie into a muscled, ferocious warrior. In fact, the first image of her in the film is of her doing chin-ups on her hospital bed. After the death of Kyle Reese, Sarah took his warnings, and the responsibility of raising the hope of mankind, to heart. However, her fixation on the disaster and her fanatical desire to keep John safe has made her slightly mentally unstable and very violent, which is only aggravated by her fear and hatred of the T-800. She dropped off the grid to better protect herself and John. She lived a semi-criminal life among various outlaws and survivalists and attempted to teach her son the skills he would need to lead the resistance. Sarah was captured and sent to the hospital after she attempted to destroy a computer factory.

17.O'Niel

Federal Marshal O'Niel is assigned to a one-year tour of duty in Con Am 27, a titanium ore mining outpost on Jupiter's moon Io. When the Marshal investigates the violent deaths of miners he discovers that they had all used a dangerous amphetamine-type drug called "polydichloric euthimal". O'Niel follows the trail of the dealers which leads to the outpost's General Manager Sheppard who has been bribing O'Niel's deputy Montone to turn a blind eye to the shipping and sale of the drug. O'Niel's wife frustrated that he considers justice more important than his family, leaves him a message pleading with him to return with her to Earth.
O'Niel vows to expose the entire scheme. Following a second confrontation Sheppard requests two assassins from his "contact" who are brought in on the next shuttle flight to murder O'Niel. The fact that the shuttle is bearing professional assassins is spread around the facility and O'Neil's attempts to defend himself by organising resistance fall on deaf ears as no-one is prepared to risk their neck to help him.
With the sole assistance of the outpost's doctor, Lazarus, O'Niel engages in a desperate kill-or-be-killed chase through the colony before dispatching the assassins.

16.Nada

Nada (Roddy Piper)is a quiet drifter who finds work on a Los Angeles construction site. When Nada later dons the glasses for the first time he soon discovers that many people are actually aliens who are human-looking except for skull-like faces. The aliens are the wealthy upper class members of society as well as politicians while the majority of society are poor. Nada with the help of his friend Frank played by Keith David and a small resistance fight back against the aliens and exspose them once for all.

15.Mariner

In the future the Greenhouse Effect has taken place on a now ravaged Earth covered in water and a mysterious drifter aids a mother and daughter in seeking Dryland, a mythical place that a group of savage bandits seek out as well.

14.Capt. J.T. Robbins

The year is 2022, prison systems from all over the world are now run by private corporations and have become business. He is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his commanding officer who ordered him to wipe out innocent people. Convicted soldier John Robbins is dumped on the prison island Absolom after he refused to execute his cell-mate and assaulted the Warden. On Absolom convicts are put there to either survive or die. Caught up in a feud between the two camps Robbins is determined to escape from the prison island and finds it is his ultimate challenge as nobody has ever escaped and he agrees to help The Insiders defend The Compound from The Outsiders.

13.Judge Dredd

Dredd is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot. Judge Dredd is amongst the UK's best known home-grown comic characters. So great is the character's reputation that his name is sometimes invoked over similar issues to those explored by the comic series, such as the police state, authoritarianism and the rule of law.Judge Dredd was named the seventh greatest comic character by the magazine Empire. His other great character was John Spartan from Demolition Man.

12.Korben Dallas

One of my favorite sc-fi films with some really funny characters.
The film's central plot involves the survival of humanity, which becomes the duty of a taxicab driver (and former special forces major) named Korben Dallas (Willis) when a young woman (Jovovich) falls into his taxicab. Upon learning of her significance, Korben must join efforts with the girl and a priest (Holm) to recover four mystical stones which are key to defending Earth from an impending attack of pure evil and destruction.

11.Tron

Tron, played by Bruce Boxleitner, is the titular character of the film. He is a security program created by Alan Bradley (also played by Boxleitner). In the movie, he stopped the MCP and Sark with the help of the digitized user named Flynn.

10.Max walker

Im a big fan of Van Damme's and allot of people will agree Timecop was probably his best film. He plays a U.S. Federal agent in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when time travel is possible. It also stars Ron Silver as a rogue politician and Mia Sara as the agent's wife. The story follows an interconnected web of episodes in the agent's life (or perhaps lives) as he fights time-travel crime and investigates the politician's unusually successful career.Turn back the clock and your history.

9.Neo

In the near future, a computer hacker named Neo discovers that all life on Earth may be nothing more than an elaborate facade created by a malevolent cyber-intelligence, for the purpose of placating us while our life essence is "farmed" to fuel the Matrix's campaign of domination in the "real" world. He joins like-minded Rebel warriors Morpheus and Trinity in their struggle to overthrow the Matrix.

8.Rick Deckard

In a cyberpunk vision of the future man has developed the technology to create replicants, human clones used to serve in the colonies outside Earth but with fixed lifespans. In Los Angeles 2019, Deckard is a Blade Runner a cop who specializes in terminating replicants artificially created humans. He wants to get out of the force but is drawn back in when 4 "skin jobs", a slang term for replicants hijack a ship back to Earth. The city that Deckard must search for his prey is a huge, sprawling, bleak vision of the future. This film questions what it is to be human and why life is so precious.

7.Max Rockatansky

I really enjoyed all three Mad Max films and heard there doing a fourth or remaking it which I'm not too sure about. I think they finished it off well with Thunderdome but we're have to wait and see. Mad Max, Max Rockatansky is a Main Force Patrol officer fighting for peace on the roads of a dystopic Australia. Max is quiet, rarely speaking to any great extent, and never paying much attention to his steadily-increasing reputation. He is an outstanding pursuit driver and is emotionally complex, often laughing and joking with his peers and his wife, Jessie, with whom he is very much in love. Though the best officer on the force, he is secretly afraid that he is becoming cold and heartless like the criminals he pursues. Max is eventually unable to cope with the loss of his friend, wife, and infant son. As a result, he carries out the ruthless revenge killings of those responsible for their deaths. He is last seen driving out into the wasteland, leaving the fading remnants of civilization behind him.

6.Snake Pliskin

This was a hard decision since I think he plays a great hero in The Thing as R.J. MacReady and Col. Jonathan 'Jack' O'Neil from Stargate which are some of my favourite sc-fi films but I went with Snake Pliskin. As mentioned in the movie Snake was arrested in 1997 after breaking into the U.S. Federal Reserve. Following the heist the story of his capture was filmed, although the footage was cut from the beginning of the movie. It can be seen on supplementary materials on the VHS and DVD editions of Escape from New York. He was sentenced to life in New York maximum security prison the entire island of Manhattan surrounded by an impenetrable wall and left in an anarchic state. At this time Air Force One was hijacked and crashed into Manhattan, and the President, played by Donald Pleasence was captured by the Duke of New York (Isaac Hayes) the leader of the prisoners. Robert Hauk (Lee Van Cleef) offered Snake a full pardon for every criminal action he committed if he goes in and rescue's the President.

5.Robocop

RoboCop (or OCP Crime Prevention Unit 001), formerly Detroit Police Officer Alex J. Murphy. The character begins as a human being who is killed in the line of duty by a vicious crime gang. Subsequently, Murphy is transformed into the cyborg entity by the megacorporation Omni Consumer Products taking in the trash as well seeking revenge on his killers. Like the Temrminator theres only one actor that can play Robocop the best and that's Peter Weller who did great in one and two. He had a great character in Screammers to.

4.The Terminator

There were a few Arnie characters I could have put like Dutch and Douglas Quaid but I wanted to put his most iconic role in. In the sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day Schwarzenegger reprises the role as the hero instead of the villain playing a different but visually identical Terminator in each of the three films. Within the Terminator universe created by Cameron, Terminators of the same "model" share identical characteristics. In the production of the films, this has allowed multiple Terminators to be portrayed by Schwarzenegger. The Terminator gets sent back to protect young John Connor from the shape shifting T-1000 played brilliantly by Robert Patrick.

3.Ellen Ripley

The character was heralded as a seminal role for challenging gender stereotypes, particularly in the science fiction genre and remains Weaver's most famous role to date.
In 2003 Ripley was selected by the American Film Institute as the eighth greatest hero in American cinema history on their 100 Years... 100 Heroes and Villains list. Entertainment Weekly called the character "one of the first female movie characters who isn't defined by the men around her or by her relationship to them".

2.Kyle Reese

Kyle Reese is a soldier in the human resistance from the post-apocalyptic future. The resistance rallies enough remaining human forces to launch a successful final assault on Skynet's central complex. Using a time displacement equipment Skynet sends one of its most feared machines a T-800 series Terminator back to Los Angeles 1984, to assassinate the young Sarah Connor, known to have been the mother of resistance leader John Connor and prevent the birth of Connor and the success of his future rebellion. Realising what Skynet is attempting to do Connor sends a soldier to intercept the Terminator. Reese volunteers. Once he had gone through the time displacement equipment is destroyed leaving only him and the Terminator in 1984. Michael Biehn did a great job playing Kyle Reese as well as Hicks from Aliens.

1.Luke Skywalker

Luke is the main hero in the original trilogy as he learns the ways of the Jedi and becomes an important figure in the Rebel Alliance leading the struggle against the Galactic Empire and face his father the feared Darth Vader. In 2008 Luke Skywalker was selected by Empire magazine as one of The 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time.On their list of the 100 Greatest Fictional Characters. I think Luke Skywalker is the most iconic and well known sc-fi character ever and the reason why I put him at no.1.

So there you have it my top sc-fi heroes. You might not agree with some but this is the best list for me.
