Time Gal

We're Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Time Gal

Here is the story all about the game we all rarely known is Time Gal!

The game came in 1985, so this is the perfect time to do the 25th anniversary tribute of Time Gal

It all started the in year 4001, a bad guy, Luda stole the time machine, and it's up to Reika Kirishima (AKA, Time Gal) to save history of mankind.

Time Gal has to go through many time periods from the past, to the present, and to the future.

First, it's the past stage, such as; 700,000,000 BC, 165,000,000 BC, 30,000 BC, 16,000 BC, and 44 BC.

Then, It's the present stage, you know "AD", such as; 500 AD, 666 AD (999 in the American verison), 1588 AD, 1941 AD, and 1990 AD (1991 in the American verison, because of the Gulf War).

And finally the future stage, such as; 2001 AD, 2010 AD, 3001 AD, 3999 AD, and 4000 AD.

And finally The final level, in 4001, this is when Time Gal defeated Luda, and saved time and space for mankind.

You know why can Time Gal go to other time periods like; 1492: Discovering America, 1621: The first Thanksgiving, 1776: Crossing the Delware River, 1812: The War of 1812, 1914: World War I, 1930: The Great Depression, 1951: Civil Defence, 1969: Woodstock on the moon, 1977: Studio 54, 1984: Based of a book, 1996: Invasion of the Tickle Me Elmos, and 1999: Before Shutdown.

Oh well, maybe She'll might have on own TV show someday, and do that as well.

Sometimes, Time Gal isn't really easy to play at first, but for some reason Reika shrunk herself and things kill her :(, like at the wrong time of at the wrong move.

In 2007, Reika was a selectable character in this game called Castle Shikigami 3, with her redesign look, and her talk of nonsense (probably all her bonks on her head from her last game)

I wonder if they'll make a Time Gal TV Game?

Time Gal

Happy 25th Anniversary

The End

I was deep in the Nintendo camp during Sega's hayday, so I missed this jewel. Something to add to the retro-gaming collection. Good look.

@volkstraum: Time Gal was first an arcade game that used cartoons on a LaserDisc for most of its graphics. Then it was ported to Sega CD using Sega Genesis graphics a la Lunar. This is the version pictured in this article. To play games like this, you watch the cartoon and push the joystick or the button in the right direction at the right time. If you did it right you advance to the next scene. Otherwise you see a "death" animation. It's hard until you memorize all the scenes, then it's very easy. These games used to confuse me when I was a kid. I thought you could just go anywhere at any time but you can't. Mostly you have to passively watch the cartoon and wait for something to happen. Most "laserdisc games" work this way. The first one was Dragon's Lair which came to the arcades in 1983. For more info watch the AVGN video about Dragon's Lair on the NES.

Dragon's Lair:Time Warp was actually based on stuff left over when they made Dragon's Lair.

Sweet article! I remember two years ago I was looking through old video game walkthroughs and I suddenly came across 'Time Gal'. I thought it looked awesome, but it looks tough to beat. I'll give it a shot if I ever play this :)

Gotta love 80s anime designs. (sigh). Reika is clearly a rip-off of the Dirty Pair, but who cares? She's HOT! Wow,I didn't know Motoi Sakuraba(Valkyrie Profile,Star Ocean) made the music of this game, though. I remember seeing this at the arcades as one of those game in the corner that nobody played and you never got around to play yourself.

    "The game came in 1985..."

    Where? On what?
What exactly do you do in this game?

it's kind of funny how dragon's lair came first. then all of these imitators came along. i never did play time gal, but it from the looks of its gameplay, it had a fresh new style in terms of what dragon's lair was. perhaps when this also came out, dragon's lair: the time warp was taken as inspiration from this? you never know... thumbs up on the article

Wish you could have screenies from the original LaserDisc version rather than the pixellated home version. This looks like an amusing variation on Dragon's Lair. You didn't say how to actually play this game, but I read somewhere that you have to hit the right direction at the right time like Dragon's Lair. AVGN said her voice is annoying. The theme and characters in this game are kind of cool but if you made a sequel, the gameplay would have to be different, because players want more interaction nowadays.
