90's Comic Book Ads Pt. 2

The continuation of my presentation of comic ad publication

Welcome to the second installment of my comic book advertisements from the 90's! The immense joy I had while making the first one titillated me so much I was forced to do another article. The same concept holds true in this one as it did in the last. I've gathered some ads that piqued my interest, and so, you get to witness them all, as well. The ads are assorted in the order of Superhero Stuff, Food, and Miscellaneous. I fiddled around with the size of the advertisements and made them bigger on this go around. This makes them easier to see! I hope as you read this article that images pop-up in your head as much as they did in my brain. So just take your time and absorb and retain all the goodies that await you. Have fun!

Well, thanks for reading my second take at this. I hope you're leaving full from all the memories. Feel free to leave some thoughts on some of these things; I'd love to read them! It's a real blast getting feedback from the RetroJunk community. It doesn't matter if it's about superheroes, snacks, or all the retro randomness. It's all fun!!!

Until next time...

dude, you have brough nostalgic joy to me! even though I didn't recognize all the ads anyone from the '90s would remember the products. :)

RJ really needs to put in some sort of favorite system, cause this is one I'll defiantly be coming back to again and again! Its strange; the older I get, I find myself longing more for the little things like this. I mean most of the TV shows that I loved as a kid are now either on DVD or easily found on Youtube, and comics are in collections or scans online, but the advertisements are sometimes sort of a rarity. Who'd of thunk that one day I'd be getting all nostalgic over a commercial break, the one thing I always ignored as a kid?
I always love flipping through my old comics and video game mags and just look at all the ads. I just love the design of them and just how creative the graphic designers can get sometimes. Thanks for the nostalgia trip, Cosgrove!

I gotta say, great article! You brought so many memories back to me. That Deadpool picture was actually one of the first full sketched drawings i did at that time. And i have Marvel: War of the gems on my snes. Its not too bad, it gets hella repetitive though. Thumbs way up!

Anyone remember the Charelston Chew ads where you could send in wrappers for free Wolverine comics?

Nice job, Cosgrove. If you've got more CB Ads, I hope they include ads for The Disney Afternoon, Cartoon Network, Fox Kids, Kids' WB!, Sega Genesis, Game Gear, Super NES, and cereals from Kellogg's and General Mills.

Man it's good to see a real article smith here. Been a looooong drought. Another very nice chapter in your Comic Book Ads series.

-You're inspiring me to learn Photoshop, I've had it for a while but never used it, all your title look great, especially the Food one ;O). Your pic resolution seems a little higher than the last round too, making everything look even better.

    - Nice hidden tag section!

    - All in all a great read, and I hope you stick around these parts, because RJ needs talented, thoughtful writers such as yourself.

UPN Kids with the hulk and Jumanji was cool, but it was nothing compared to the UPN Marvel Kids Action Zone that preceded it with the Fox Kids Marvel shows of the 90's mixed in w/the original Spiderman and Spider Man and his amazing friends shows from the 70s/80's. It was very UNFORTUNATE, that DISNEY had to botch it up by expanding it's 1 Saturday Morning block, therefore REPLACING UPN Kids' action zone, with Disney's 1Too really?!1

I couldn't tell you all how mad I was in 5th grade (1999-2000) when I would turn in to UPN and realize that 1Too would PERMANTLY replace Kid's action zone. Wanting to get my Marvel fix by waching Xmen, Hulk, Iron Man (w/some cameo/guest appearances every now and then) w/a dash of Spiderman and his Amazing Friends (is that too much to ask?) and I'm keep turning to UPN to find Doug in it's place!!!!

Really it was ENOUGH for Disney to have Disney, Toon Disney, 1Saturday Morning, and the Disney Afternoon (UPN incarnation) but then this?!!

and you have to think about the lobo ads. They were also cool.
AND the MDK2 ad was nice that was printed in magazins in the mid 90's.you know it? its the one with the dog bowl and the green slime .and in the background you see on of the protagonists:the four armed dog.
but good article. i enjoyed the game boy camera ad . just classical and cool.and NOW nintendo just do crap.

I just flipped through my comic book collection and I found most of these ads in several issues. Man, it just makes me wish I was back in the 90s.
    Thanks for posting this.

COOOOSSSSGGGRRROOOOOVVVVEEE! Oh, there you are. Nice article. Although most of these ads seem to come from the period that I briefly left comics behind for high school social activity (go figure), that Crunch N' Munch ad drives me crazy. It is seriously on like every 90's Marvel comic I own and the artwork on those cards is atrocious. So sketchy and the weird red coloring/shading on Wolverine made me swear off ever eating that accursed caramel-laced popcorn nonsense.

Hot Tamales are uber-90's to me, I feel like I never see them anymore. But back in the day Mike N' Ikes and Hot Tamales were found in every vending machine I frequented. Good stuff, Cos.

Wow...I remember 1/2 of these ads...they were even on Magazines aimed toward this age-bracket.

    Go Gen Y!
LuckyHawk Posted 2 years 20 days ago
Every article on the site should be this level of great.
TheOutlaw Posted 2 years 20 days ago
In the mid to late 90's, I subscribed to Sonic the Hedgehog comics. I recall a lot of their back covers having those Cap'n Crunch and Twizzlers ads.
TheOutlaw Posted 2 years 20 days ago
Love it! I remember a great deal of these.
mysticwryter Posted 2 years 20 days ago
Great article! Love the layout of the font and everything. Very Graphic which is perfect for this article.

You're one of the gods on RJ that can take article writing to a higher level!!
