The Best Wrestling Game Ever
On
September 25, 2009
This is actually my first article. I stummbled upon this site and fell in love with it as everyone shares their passion for the vintage things we all know and love and i find myself completely hooked to check it out daily and read others articles. Hopefully some of you out there will share my passion for this great wrestling game if there are any wrestling fans out there.

Some people would ask themselves, what's the best wrestling game ever? A lot of younger people would mention titles like No Mercy or maybe a game from the Smackdown! series. But there would be a few who were convinced that the coin-op from Technos, WWF Wrestlefest is the greatest wrestling game of all time. I can remember heading to the arcade and spending lots of tokens & tons of time playing with this arcade game.

The roster featured: Hulk Hogan, Mr. Perfect, Demolition (Smash & Crush), Legion of Doom (Hawk & Animal), Big Bossman, Ultimate Warrior, Jake Roberts, Ted DiBiase, Earthquake & Sgt. Slaughter. Sure it wasnt a big roster but it's deff a great one especially when your a youngster playing it on the big coin ups. It had great moves including finishers for all superstars. Personally Demolition is my all time favorite tag team so this was a big bonus since they have never made it into any other wrestling game unless you create them in the SD vs. Raw series. I would of like to have Ax & Smash but it was good enough for me at the time.

One of my favorite features of this game was the Royal Rumble mode. The ring would fill up with superstars and be very realistic to the actual match for it's time. This arcade game actually started the button mashing for me as there would be alot going on at once and since your paying to play you obviously want to win so you can continue playing as long as possible.

Basically the main storyline in the game was you choose 2 wrestlers and go through the challange of defeating other tag team opponents making your way to the end and facing LOD for the Tag Team Championship. Back then it kind of sucked since LOD wasnt playable in the beginning since you had to defeat them first.

Nowadays you can get arcade emultaors and still enjoy this classic game on your pc which is always nice especially for people who havent played it. I havent been able to find this game in any arcade and i have been to many of them including the largest arcade known as "funspot." I recently went to a building that was full of arcade & pinball machines for sale and spotted wretlefest in mint condition. The owner actually turned it on and let me play it and it was amazing that i was able to play it on the original arcade coin up. Completely destroys the emulator on the pc and it gives it the authentic touch of a real arcade game. The owner wanted $1500 shipped for it which was out of my price range, so unfortunately i had to say goodbye for now. I see them every now and then on eBay but shipping always is expensive plus id want to inspect it before purchasing. So hopefully one day i will own it.

That's pretty much it for now. I hope everyone enjoyed my first article, ill probably be back with another one sometime.
