Megaman Fan For Life: a comic

A comic about how Megaman changed my life and wasted my free time!

Hi everyone! This is the second article I have written for retrojunk. In all fairness it is not really an article at all, it is a comic. My previous comic was titled "My Mario 3" memories (if you haven't checked that one out please scroll back a few pages and check that one out first, this will be waiting for when you come back)... I didn't know how it would be received on retrojunk but I was ecstatic when it received generally good reviews/feedback. Because of this I decided to work on a second comic. For the "Mario 3" comic I mostly used pen and ink and flat colors that I "painted in" using photo-shop. For this comic however I decided to try all kinds of different things. For instance I scanned the grip-tape from my skateboard for the street that "Mega-me" is standing on for the cover page. I used markers, crayons, acrylic paint, cut paper, photo manipulation and found material to make this comic (the piece of wood used for the background of the page with Megaman, a met and a bat I had found by the dumpster of my apartment). For the pic of Dr. Wily I used the palm of my hand for his face, my fiances eyes, one of my shirts for his shirt, and my fiances friend's brown hair I turned grey and used it for his hair. I started working on this about 3 weeks after I finished the Mario 3 comic... between work, school,Resident Evil 5,Call of Duty 4,having a short story and two comics printed in a literary magazine, and anything else that would distract me I worked on it whenever I found the free time. It took me about 2 to 3 months or so to complete. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy it!

I hope you enjoyed this comic as much as I enjoyed making it. I am so glad I found this website, I love reading all the great articles that people post and I love that it gives me a creative outlet to show my work to people that like what I do! THANKS a ton! (Now I am going to go work on finally beating Ninja Gaiden 2 for Xbox 360 and deciding if my next comic should be about Castlevania 3(which I received after 2 jaminators that I got for Christmas broke), getting Sonic 2 and a genesis for Christmas or something entirely different). Any suggestions?

Here are two additional comics that I drew after playing Megaman 9 for the first time...

Oh... and just in case you need to compare my Megaman 2 box to the official one... here it is, I dare you to tell me that whatever is going on with his ankle looks natural! I dare ya!

Till next time true believers! - Pat Henzy

Really good article. The only problem I had is there's no Zero. Zero is my favorite character. Other than that excellent article. Thumbs up

I was coming up with some concept drawings for a Mega Man movie and I thought about this article. It reminded of how I became hooked on the "Blue Bomber" - my older cousin rented Mega Man 2 and brought it over after church. I was hooked. I would always draw the bosses (my 7-8 year old mind thought most of them resembled Air Man), and I wouldn't be satisfied until I had a Mega Man game other than the Tiger Electronic one. I got the first Mega Man and wasn't convinced it was him until I looked at the back of the box. I missed some of the NES and SNES games, but thanks to the Anniversary Collections I can relive my childhood.
    Thanks for the memories, man!

These comic articles much such a good change to the normal font and photo ones!
I feel your pain with the dragon boss on MM2, that thing used to drive me mental trying to beat it, and what happens when you lose all your lifes?!?!
You start at the bottom again, grrr!
I was gutted when my 2 year old brother beat it, that sucked

Our cover art was different to yours, the uk release must of decided that the broken ankle look was too much

Sucks that it takes you so long to produce these works of art, i would like to see them more regular!

    Thumbs up

I love all the effort you put into it and the real life elements you used was a nice touch too. Very good article/comic, and I believe I would have liked it still if it was just words. Great job.

Excellent comic! I really liked your rendering of Viewtiful Joe!

Great comic - the art is especially awesome! My favorite frame is the one with the different Capcom characters. You nailed the Resident Evil guy to a T (Leon, methinks?). Blanka looks stoned - maybe not a coincidence seeing as how this was published on 4/20...

Megaman is one of those games that is still hard as h*ll no matter how old you are and it was pretty innovative at the time with the large collections of weapons, stages, and bosses. I'm a fan of the game and an even bigger fan of PAT THE MOTHER*&%$#! HENZY.

Awesome stuff here. I'm a big Blue Bomber fan as well. The 3rd one is my favorite because of Blues, and my favorite robot master Gemini Man. I still have my Fighter's Edge card, too.
Your art style reminds me of Brad Neely's.

dude....your art is phenominal. do you have a girlfriend?

Congratulations on an awesome article! I love how you used different art styles for certain panels, your Cutman construction paper pic is a cool homage to South Park. Anyway I had trouble with that damn dragon on Mega Man 2 as well, so I know how you feel. You also made an awesome redition of the original Mega Man box art too. Protoman is a selectable character in the arcade game Mega Man: The Power Battle, which is part of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the PS2 and Gamecube. You also made a good point about Megaman in Captain N: The Game Master. I didn't like how they also made Simon Belmont a goofy coward with a big Leno chin. Of course Belmont is the funniest one on the show. I'm gonna check out your other articles to see if their as good as this one!

Funny how you thought that you got to play as the character you selected on the stage select screen the first time you played Mega Man...cause I did too. The first Mega Man I played was Mega Man III, and I instantly choose Snake Man cause I thought I would get to play as him, and I love snakes and reptiles. I think Mega Man II is the one that most people played for the first time. In fact, there really aren't that many people who played the first one first, as the 2nd one is where the series really went mainstream.

I'm going to be totally honest here. I did not even bother reading this comic. It's a good topic, a lot of effort was put into it, and I know the author very well, so I gave it an automatic THUMBS UP!

lol, the "highschool you" is hilarious!
Cosgrove Posted 4 years 29 days ago
Wow. Just wow. I liked this one ten folds better than the first one. It is longer and better. I love the artistic quality put into it with all the different renderings. Thumbs up across the board.

Hooray, it was worth the wait! These are always such a nice change of pace, Pat. Thanks for all the hard work (although I'm sure it was a lot of fun, too). I was going to suggest an article/comic on The Misfits since you tend to draw yourself with a fiend/crimson ghost skull shirt on all the time and even included a Danzig portrait in the background of this MegaMan article. As a fellow "Fiend", it would be cool to see a comic that chronicles your Misfits fandom.
