SNES games no one else had

A list of games that I might have been the only one to own

I've read many articles on here that list everyone's favorite Super Nintendo games and I think we all agree and have the same taste. Sure we all owned or we all played Super Mario World, Donley Kong Country, Super Mario Kart, Zelda 3, Star Fox, etc. and don't get me wrong those are classics and some of my favorite games of all time. But this list is about the games that weren't popular. The games that none of my friends owned. The games that you won't find on the Wii Arcade that you can buy (well maybe one day) These games were usually a gift that even I never heard about at the time or maybe I asked for them because Nintendo Power gave it a great review. Also since there really weren't places to sell or trade in games you were pretty much stuck with that 50 dollar investment and was forces to play it. Here goes:

Super Batter Up

Now this is a game I spent lots and lots of time playing. It was the first and only game to have the real names of players for SNES which is why I bought it. Not even the original Ken Griffey Jr. baseball had real names (except for Junior himself) It was simple and it was easy. Press A to pitch, press A to swing, etc. This is the way sport games should be. None of this swing stick garbage and precise pitching they have on games now. This is a game that anyone could just pick up and play without a tutorial. I remember how great the A's were in this team and I would play entire seasons and even to this day I could probably name the entire 1992 roster for every single team. After each win or loss there would be a newspaper that would shoot into the screen that you could move around and view the box score. What more can you want?

Soul Blazer

Ok, now this game is the main reason I wrote this article. I think I'm the only one who ever owned this game and to this day I think it's one of my favorite SNES games ever and it's up there as far as all time. And it's too bad also that it didn't get the respect it deserved. I remember telling my friends about it and they really didn't feel like it was that great of a game. The only reason I bough it was because it was made by Enix who also made Actraiser which I loved. The review in Nintendo Power was actually really good and said it was like Actraiser meets Legend of Zelda, so what more can you ask for? Actraiser 2 was horrible because it got rid of the world building mode. Soul Blazer had a great story that you really got into and even after you beat it you find yourself wanted to play it all over again. I just remember having to step on these buttons that would expand the overhead area you walked on that would allow you to advance. Go play it if you can.

Wings 2: Aces High

Now this game was pretty fun. I originally bought it because for some reason I thought maybe it was a sequel to Pilotwings. I was wrong, since this game is a WWI air fighting game. It was pretty hard and I don't think I made it that far in the game but some levels were really fun, especially the ones where you would get to bomb buildings and factories below. The dog fights were really hard (especially against the Red Baron) and I remember after you got shot down they would have this sad music showing your pilot. Not a bad game, just weird that I would actually go out and buy this game. Wasn't my money so I guess I didn't care.

Spider-Man and X-Men: Arcade's Revenge

Alright so this list is about games I owned. I guess when you have 3 months off for summer, a month in the winter not including snow days, and you get home from school around 3, you have a lot of free time. I think that's what made me really get into games I owned. This is a game I asked for and that I really wanted and when I got it I was truly disappointed. I had high hopes since I was a huge X-Men fan but this game just wasn't fun. You could choose your X-Men character (or Spider-Man) which would take you to their own level. These levels were impossible and I think I quit after a while because it just wasn't fun. Bad investment here.

Super Star Wars, Super Empire Strikes Back, Super Return of the Jedi

OK, well I think Super Star Wars did pretty well in the sales department, but I believe the next two sequels didn't. All of the games were pretty much the same as they all had side scrolling levels (each level with different playable characters) and levels were you could fly ships. The first one was actually my least favorite because it didn't allow you to save with a password. All these games were very true to the story line of the movie (even had movie cut scenes between levels) and had a great soundtrack. These games don't really bring me back to early 90s video gaming like the others, it puts me in the movie!

Other games that missed the list because I think they were a little more popular were: Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Super R-Type, Gradius III, and Populous. Hope you enjoyed and I'm sure some of you had these games or maybe games that I never even heard of. Thanks for reading.
