Top 10 Overrated Disney Films

Too much focus on these, and not enough on the classics!

I'm writing this article as a response to NostalgiaFan922's article about what he thought were the Top 10 Underrated Disney Films.

You know, I am a huge, HUGE Disney fan. I appreciate most of what they've done in terms of movies, TV series' and theme park attractions. However, there are some Disney movies that I feel should be categorized as the overrated films.

Now, before you all start yelling "BOO" and throwing your stuff at me, let me explain this to you, and I'm only going to explain it once: This is an unofficial list, and it's all based on my opinion. I DO NOT HATE ALL OF THESE MOVIES! I just find that these are the films of Disney that are looked at a little too much.

So, without further introduction, I give you the unofficial Top 10 Overrated Disney Films:

#10 - Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

To start things off, I must tell you all that I truly love this movie. That's why it's at the bottom of my list, but the reason it's on my list is for a few reasons. First of all, it appears to be a mega favorite to a lot of 80's fans, Disney fans and animation fans, and they're like always talking about it. What I don't seem to understand is how a lot of people are referring to this as an animated movie. It's not! Just because it has animation in it doesn't make it an animated movie! This is a movie I like to classify as a live-action/animated hybrid. Lastly, I'd like to state that as far as Disney movies go, I tend to overlook this one pretty often, but other people remember it well; it's strange that movies like this wind up getting a colossal fanbase.

#9 - Lady and the Tramp

This is considered to be one of the most classic and memorable Disney films of all time. As for me, even though I am a dog lover, this movie has never been one of my favorites. Looking back at it or even thinking about it for some reason leaves some embarrassing memories in my head. I put this one low on the list because even though it's never been one of my favorites, it's still a classic, and I think it deserves the appreciation it gets.

#8 - The Lion King 2

I am a Lion King fan myself, and since the movie's release, fans have been hoping desperately for a sequel. I didn't want them to make a sequel though, because I felt the original was perfect and should have been treated as an independent film. When I heard a sequel was coming out, I had very low expectations as to what it might be like. It's a lot different from the first movie. I was thinking that Simba was going to die in this movie, but he didn't, but probably the biggest surprise in this movie is that Simba and Nala's young cub was a girl. I don't know why so many people like this movie so much. The movie has too many songs (which aren't as good as the songs in the original), and the movie leaps in time too fast. This film is overall inferior to the original.

#7 - Mulan

Now, I don't think this movie did very well when it came out, but today, it seems to have an unusually big fan base. I mean, I think it was a nice addition to the Disney catalog, it was unique in a lot of ways, but it lacked some things compared to most films from the Disney Renniasance Era. For one thing, it doesn't have as many memorable songs. It was popular enough to recieve a direct-to-DVD sequel. I mean don't get me wrong; this is not a bad movie at all, but calling it one of the best is a little much.

#6 - Cars

I'm not a big fan of computer animation, but the Pixar movies know their focus, which is why I like them. "Cars", on the other hand, is not one I'd want to watch over and over. This, in my opinion, is by far the worst...well, I shouldn't say worst...but the least best in the Pixar catalog. The animation is decent, the cast is awesome, the soundtrack is good, but the fanbase is over the top. Even though this movie is three years old now, merchandise of it is still being sold everywhere. I see kids wearing "Cars" shirts even nowadays. What is it about this movie that makes it so popular with the kids?

#5 - Toy Story 2

As we all know, "Toy Story" was the very first Disney/Pixar film. It's one of my favorite Disney films of all time. Of course, the success of the movie would lead to a sequel, right? Well, that's just what they did. The reason I put this one on my list is because pretty much every person I know who is a Pixar fan says that they find "Toy Story 2" to be BETTER than the original! How can a sequel be better than the original? That's not supposed to happen! As a matter of fact, if you were to ask someone to rank the Pixar films in order from their favorite to least favorite, this one always seems to come up really high on the list like #2! I mean, what made this film better than the original? Maybe the addition of some new characters were a nice touch, or maybe there were some jokes and cultural references that a lot of people laughed at, but overall, this was not in any way better than the original! That's almost like breaking the first of the 10 Commandments!

#4 - Tarzan

Most Disney fans refer to this as the last "good" Disney movie. I personally think there will always be some good ones out there if you look hard enough. Even though this may have been the last film of the Renniasance Era, I find it's fanbase to be ridiculously large. I mean, what can be so entertaining about a naked guy who lives with gorillas and slides on trees? I mean, the characters aren't all that interesting, the voice actors are nothing special, I can't tell who is supposed to be the villain, and overall, I just don't get it. Phil Collins' soundtrack doesn't help much either. Well, at least the movie was done in traditional animation.

#3 - Monsters Inc.

When this movie came out, it was a huge hit and built up a huge fan base. Today, it's still a popular film with just as big a fan base as ever. Sorry to disappoint, but I gotta disagree with the fans. As far as 3D-animated movies go, "Monsters Inc." marked the beginning of the end. This movie set the standards of how bad computer-animated movies can get. It relies too much on jokes than it does on story. There are tons of people who loved this movie, but I never heard any real reason why they loved it so much. The only clear compliments I got were from the fans of Boo. These fans were, of course, women in their 30's and 40's who thought she was so cute; I didn't find her cute at all. Okay, i know what the girls liked about it, but what did the boys enjoy? If Disney would have put their minds to it and actually put some more thought into the story than the jokes, we would have had another classic, but instead, we just got another commercial comedy. Not to mention, this movie badly ripped off the Nicktoon, "Aaahh! Real Monsters".

#2 - Aladdin

Ask anyone to give you a list of their top favorite animated movies of all time, and chances are this one will be somewhere on the list, possibly pretty high. I don't know what kind of formula Disney used on this movie, but this Disney movie has one of the biggest fanbases ever. I remember this movie being a huge hit when it came out. Back then, it seemed to be more popular with the girls; I remember girls all over my school pretending to be Princess Jasmine or singing "A Whole New World". After it's popularity, nobody ever seemed to talk about the movie anymore, but today, people everywhere are talking about it, and it now seems to be more popular with the guys this time. Why do so many people love this movie so much? What is it that makes it so special? Please give me one good reason why this movie is better than "101 Dalmatians", "The Lion King" and "Snow White".

And now, my pick for the #1 most overrated Disney movie is...

#1 - High School Musical

I'm talking about all three of them! Seriously, all I'm hearing about nowadays as far as Disney is doing is "High School Musical". What I don't understand is why Disney would even do such a thing. They made three movies in less than a year! I mean, how did they make those movies so fast? That's almost as ridiculous as the timespan between the "Guitar Hero" games! It's just another one of Disney's crazy schemes to make a lot of money! I guess their main reason for making this was to give all their current gen Disney Channel watchers an excuse to go to the theaters and prepare them for the upcoming launch of Disney XD. Disney is supposed to be about magic and making dreams come true, not annoying teen flicks that plan to dominate the world! Well, I guess I can't really argue. This is a new generation, afterall. If these movies came out in the 80's, they would have been awesome.

Well, there you go. Those are my opinions on what I think are the most overrated Disney films as of today. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go watch some classic Disney movies that deserve some appreciation.

First off, Who Framed Roger Rabbit was very innovative and completely not overrated. That and, it's not a Disney movie. Do your homework pal.
nduns Posted 2 years 11 months ago
Oh, and in regards to that whole "A sequel can't be better than the original" thing... that is a very ignorant statement. It's like you have a mindset that tells you that no matter how good a sequel is, it must automtically be worse than its predecessor. Did you ever seen Terminator 2? How about Shrek 2? Superman 2? Star Trek 2? Aliens? Evil Dead 2? The Road Warrior? The Empire Strikes Back? Dawn of the Dead? The Dark Knight? Okay, I'm done.
nduns Posted 2 years 11 months ago
Here's a quick message to those saying the good films on this list aren't overrated: There is a difference between overrated and bad! When will people realize that overrated does not automatically equal bad!? Seriously, a movie being good does not give it diplomatic immunity from being overrated. If it's overhyped or has a super-insane fanbase, chances are it deserves the "overrated" stamp. I would have put Hercules on this list myself due to so many calling it "the best ever" nowadays despite most of its characters being bland as can be and the story being really predictable for its time. I also love these comments saying that the creator of the list is wrong as if having an opinion is unthinkable.

Anyway... the reason people say Toy Story 2 is better is because it expanded on a sub-plot the first movie had and still kept the same charm and spirit that the original brought without being a rehash. I wouldn't say it's better, but I am one of those who believes it's just as good, same with number 3. In regards to Aladdin, I'd have put it lower, but I agree, it's not the masterpiece most label it as. I appreciate that the writers did all they could to prevent Aladdin from being a goody-two-shoes, but I still don't think they completely pulled it off. Cars was great, but it was also one of Disney's weakest, so I agree with it being on there. Who Framed Roger Rabbit isn't always referred to as a Disney movie. In fact, in HMV (A store that's Canada/England exclusive, apparently) it's under the "non-disney Family" section. How it's a family film is beyond me. Lady and the Tramp... as great as it is, I do feel it gets too much praise. Lion King 2... it was descent, but not great. I hated how Simba was portrayed as a prick throughout most of it. Mulan's one of my all-time favorites, but having gone back and rewatched the other rennaisance films, I do agree this one doesn't hold up quite as well. Cars I actually think is underrated by Pixar standards. Tarzan, while great, could have been better. I don't remember caring as much for Monsters Inc. as most others do myself. Do I need to say anything about HSM?

    Anyway, those are my thoughts.
    mrod22 Posted 3 years 14 days ago
cars was under rated and 5 thru 2 were awesome I totally agree with you on number 1
    raph89 Posted 3 years 2 months ago
You're right about "Cars" being overrated. I saw it in theatres and it was boring in some parts. I never saw "High School Musical." People our age don't watch those kinds of movies. You're wrong about the other films though.
    BatFan88 Posted 3 years 4 months ago
By the way, whoever said that Boy Meets World was junk is an idiot. That show was and still is far superior to shows Disney puts out now. It was even better than Full House. It was and still is one of my favorite shows from the 90's along with Home Improvement and Family Matters.
    BatFan88 Posted 3 years 4 months ago
Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with you heavily on Tarzan. I personally loved that movie mainly for the soundtrack and for the story itself. I also disagree with Monsters Inc. That was way better than Cars as a whole. Cars was not that great in the beginning but got better as it progressed. I personally was amazed by the CG animation in that movie though.
    fragglerocker1020 Posted 3 years 6 months ago
High school musical I'll give you that one. The others I can't agree with at all. Tarzan is a great movie and Toy Story 2 it is not focused on the villains at all. It's themes are deeper than that. Why are the toy story movies held up so highly because they are greatly enjoyed by children and adults.
    Trueblue94 Posted 3 years 11 months ago
Okay, I'm going to give you my thoughts...

Who Framed Roger Rabbit- This is an excellent movie. It seems to me the only reason you're overrating it is because you don't consider it to be animated... I myself have always considered it an animation/live action hybrid, but either way I still think it deserves every bit of it's acclaim.

Lady and the Tramp- One of the greatest Disney classics ever, and also a dear childhood favorite of mine. If it's not your favorite, that's okay, but I don't think that's a good enough reason to consider it overrated.

Lion King II- You're right; it's not as great as the original, but it's better than most direct-to-video sequels, and it has good messages to it. I do agree that the leap in time was a little rushed, but this film featured six songs, while the original featured five, and that's only one more, so I don't see how that's "too many". The original's soundtrack was indeed more powerful, but I think the songs in this one are still good.

Mulan- Even though it's one of my favorites, your reasoning here is more understandable.

Cars- I usually love Pixar movies, but this is the one exception. For one thing, I'm not interested in talking vehicles, and I just couldn't sit through it. So far, I think it's Pixar's weakest film, but there are still three I have to see. The movie's popularity with kids seems to be what irks you. Little boys love pretty much anything that has to do with race cars, so they figure they'll make lots-o-cash by selling them Cars merchandise...there ya go.

Toy Story 2- I haven't seen this one in ages, so I can't say much about it, but who says sequels can't be better than the original?? A sequel can either be really good or really bad, depending on how much thought the writers give it, and there have been numerous examples of sequels exceeding their original films in greatness.

Tarzan- Well, I agree that this isn't the last "good" Disney movie as some consider it to be, because I've seen Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear, and Bolt, and they're all great. But this movie is still an awesome one. I mean, you can tell Disney put their heart and soul into it. The animation is outstanding, Phil Collins' soundtrack is beautiful, and the story has a lot of emotion and heart.

Monsters Inc- This is a Pixar film I really enjoyed. I mean, even though there were some elements from Aaahh! Real Monsters, I wouldn't say it's a 100% pure rip-off. There are a lot of likeable characters besides Boo, and it also has a lot of heart. Not to mention it's hilarious. I nearly pissed myself laughing during the outtakes when the secretary monster popped up in the wrong places!

Aladdin- WTF? This is one of Disney's greatest achievements of all time! Every shining detail of this movie is spilling with awesomeness... awesome animation, awesome soundtrack, awesome cast, awesome theme, awesome humor, I could go on and on... The Lion King is better...by about one percent. As for 101 Dalmations and Snow White (though Dalmatians isn't my favorite), they're both great classics that rank equally with Aladdin. It's okay if it's not you're favorite, but calling it overrated is a little extreme.

High School Musical- *yawn* I think everyone knows that entire series is overrated. Also, it seemed as though you were only concerned with animated Disney movies, so why'd you throw this one in?

I respect your opinions, but like I said before, this article just seems sort of...whiney.

eGardensHahaha Posted 4 years 3 days ago
    I do NOT agree with
    1. Tarzan - The Soundtrack is like, one of the HUGE elements in this movie. It is a good movie.
    2. Monsters Inc. - This is a very warm movie. It is just so hug-able. It is not overrated. I don't even hear that much about it.
    3. Aladdin - Aladdin has catchy songs, and is one of the Disney "classics".

If this is just your opinion, I understand, but if you're talkin' facts, neh eh.
velcrohead Posted 4 years 9 days ago
Dude, I *really* don't get you.

#10 - Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

How do you "overrate" a film that was groundbreaking and which has done stuff that never was accomplished before and never will again??? Oh sure, the live-action/animation mix may be old hat to us today, but you DO realize that Roger Rabbit was hand-painted? Not only does this movie combine characters from different universes (Disney, WB, Tex Avery, etc) that would never--and have never since--come together, but it is also a monument to loving craftsmanship. And... you don't think it's animated??? Pray tell how the characters made it to screen, then?

By the way, this is only technically a Disney movie, insofar as Touchstone was owned by Disney.

#9 - Lady and the Tramp

Still considered one of the top romantic movies of all time. Which is why I'm sure you've never appreciated it.

    #8 - The Lion King 2 #7 - Mulan

I can agree with you on these two.

    #6 - Cars

This movie is popular with kids because it's...how shall I put it... good?? Funny, even? That, plus little boys tend to like race cars. As for the adults, this movie has a little thing I like to call "heart."

    #5 - Toy Story 2

How can a sequel be better than the original? Watch this movie. It will answer your question. Having some dumb ass rule that sequels can't be better than the original just shows how poor your reasoning (and writing) skills are. To wit, Empire Strikes Back, Godfather II, etc etc.

    #4 - Tarzan

    Sigh...you're such a tard.

    #3 - Monsters Inc.

You said: "This movie set the standards of how bad computer-animated movies can get." Ahh, so I guess the rendering of each individual hair on Sully's body really didn't do much for you. I don't know what else to say except your tastes really suck. I mean it's BILLY FREAKING CRYSTAL for crying out loud. This movie ROCKED.

    #2 - Aladdin

FACEPALM. You really think your stupid Dalmatians were better than this? Now I know why the thing in your avatar is cross-eyed.

    #1 - High School Musical

PANDERING! And by the way, didn't you make it clear in your review of Roger Rabbit that you were only concerned with "animated films"???? Consistency much??

The only reason you threw this one in was to garner some last minute thumbs-up nods, because you knew all of us here would hate it. Where's your integrity, man?
    MarioSonic94 Posted 4 years 11 days ago
    Here are my thoughts

    10. Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

This movie deserves all it's acclaim, whether you think it's an animated film or not.

    9. Lady and the Tramp

Though not my favorite "Golden Age of Animation" Disney movie, I still have sort of a soft spot for this movie

    8. Lion King 2: Simba's Pride

Though not as good as the first movie, I do conisder this to be one of the better direct to video Disney sequels

    7. Mulan

Haven't seen it in a long time, so I can't really say much

    6. Cars

Though I've sat through it several times, I do agree that this movie is a miss on Pixar's part.

    5. Toy Story 2

This movie isn't better than the first movie. Actually, this movie has the same quality as the first. And who says a sequel can't be better than the original? *cough* Empire Strikes Back *cough*

    4. Tarzan

Like Mulan, haven't seen it in a long time.

    3. Monsters Inc.

I actually thought that this movie was a like a typical Pixar movie. It had great jokes, story, and acting. Though Pete Doctor's later movie Up is superior to this.

    2. Aladdin

The reason this movie is popular is because, well, it's a f***ing good movie. Did you really expect Jasmine to be like Snow White, a one dimensional, shallow, and stereotypical woman? I consider this to be my second favorite Disney Renniasance movie.

    1. HSM

No shit this movie is overrated. But this isn't even retro for christ sake.

This countdown was nothing more than a rant article and you didn't even explain why you thought these movies were overrated.

    Thumbs down.
    MarioSonic94 Posted 4 years 17 days ago
hey Echidna64: Actually, Up is an excellent new movie. You should give that a view.
    Trueblue94 Posted 4 years 17 days ago
Other than HSM, Cars, and Lion King II (I thought it was good, but nowhere near as great as the first), I think the other movies deserve the praise they get. Sorry, but this really comes off as a whiney rant. Thumbs down.
    mickey12 Posted 4 years 1 month ago
    Too short
    Echidna64 Posted 4 years 1 month ago
Toy Story 2- Emperor Zerg made that movie, everything else kinda sucked. Stinky Pete as the villain, honestly???

Tarzan-If I wanted to listen to Phil Collins for an hour and a half I would have just bought his CD

Aladdin- I disagree with you here, can you give some reasons why you don't like the movie itself?

With Cars, I'd throw in the Incredibles and Finding Nemo. They were all frustratingly predictable. That Up movie looks like crap too.lol
    knuclear200x Posted 4 years 1 month ago
OH my GOD. You didnt even explain why the some of the movies were bad. And HSM at number one? That's not even Retro! and its OBVIOUSLY BAD/OVERRATED! DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHICH HIGHER PERCENT OF A CERTAIN AGE GROUP ATTENDS THESE FORUMS?! DO YOU???!!!!

    Lets see...
    1) Roger Rabbit was great because it featured a crossover that is no longer possible. Doesn't matter what we call it. It's still great.

2)L and T featured a lot of dark themes like what it's like in the dog pound. And you didnt explain why you think it's overrated.

    3) Lion king...part 2...and overrated don't belong in the same sentence. Wasn't THAT great.

4)Mulan featured crossdressing, censored nudity...uh...a dragon from the future, you can tell he's from the future by the way he talks but seriously...but it was never called the best as in BETTER THAN ANY MOVIE EVER MADE...but no. Maybe in china it was popular, but only because of its chinese theme. It didnt reach the same gross as the others neither. It was great because it also featured, in a sense, girl power. In summary, it was great for presentation but it was only called the best because a lot of disney movies back then were considered great.

    5) Cars is popular with the kids because...like cosgrove said, "talking cars", which is why there's still merch being sold. Maybe it is overrated ill giv e you that

    6) the general toy story series is overrated. not the movie itself. As for it being great, it was only because it didn't feature a dumb jealousy story. Also the story expanded where the toys would travel to. In the first, they traveled by car to the pizza place, and the house next door. the next one took place, at the toy store far away (by foot), some guy's apartment, and the airport. And how a sequel is better than the original is something that DOES happen, it's the fanboys and Gamefaqs Top List writers who care too much about originality.

    7) Tarzan may not have been that great but it did feature a lot of violent jungle action. And Jane looked Disney-hot in that tank top. I've nothing much to say since i hardly remember it.

    8) Monsters Inc is hardly word on the street anymore. Not even a bootleg item at a local...place...so we cant call it overrated.

    9) Aladdin featured drowning a guy, burying a woman alive in sand, a guy being crushed by a living sand tiger, and there was a lyric in the first song "They'll cut off your ear if they don't like your face, it's barbaric but hey, it's home". What else...Jasmine was hot...there i said it. these animators really know how to draw a woman sometimes...

How is it better than 101 AND snow white? well...it was made in a time that advanced in animation, humor and it was an action/adv movie, but that's an unfair comparison. We cant compare such a thing with that. Better than the Lion King? that's just 70 out of 1,286 people's opinions.

    1) HSM -

Sorry DL, but this article IS just a whiny rant about a bunch of things.Thumbs Down.
jellybeankid Posted 4 years 2 months ago
High school musical was shit I have to give you that one. But all the others maybe not retro some off them are all brillant in there own unique way.
CeciliaFett Posted 4 years 2 months ago
I don't know who the hell you're talking to in order to say that Lion King 2 is overrated. Within my circles anyways, Lion King 2 is generally well hated.

Why aren't sequels supposed to be better then the first? Yes its true, sometimes a sequel can suck, and doesn't compare to the source material. But to say that all sequels aren't supposed to be better then
the first is a bit much. Empire Strikes Back, anyone?

I don't get why you don't like Aladdin. It is an incredible movie, with great animation and very memorable characters, as well as a solid plot. Aladdin doesn't come off as your typical fairy tale. When it comes down to it, Jasmine isn't a typical princess. All Snow White does is willingly cook and clean. Maybe a song or dance here and there. But Jasmine willingly stands up for herself. She plays an active role in the plot, and won't hesitate to argue for what she believes is right.
Benjanime Posted 4 years 2 months ago
i agree with roger rabbit. cool world is better!

    just kidding, just kidding
Cosgrove Posted 4 years 2 months ago
I don't know what's so bad about this article. It's his opinions. I agree with a lot of the stuff above, especially ProphetSword. My thoughts:

    10. Roger Rabbit - I love the movie, but I really don't see it as a Disney movie. I see it more as your ordinary animated/live action movie, like Cool World. So, in my mind I think it's just an average movie.

    9. Lady and the Tramp - Totally disagree with you with this one. A top 5 Disney movie in my book. I understand where you're coming from, though. A Christmas Story rubs me the wrong way. I've tried to watch it numerous times, but can't enjoy it. That's my view on it.

    8. Lion King 2 - Agree with you here, but I don't know anyone who likes it so much that it deserves to be "overrated".

    7. Mulan - Never seen it, so I can't really be trusted with this one. I might think it's the most underrated Disney movie out there... or at least the most over looked.

    6. Cars - Agree with you here. Too long and boring. The only thing that kids like about it is the fact it's about cars and these cars can talk.

    5. Toy Story 2 - I'm one of the few who enjoys the first one more than this one. I grew up with the first one so it's more engrained in me. This movie is still good and enjoyable, though. In a way, it's overrated.

    4. Tarzan - I'm more familiar to the soundtrack than the movie. Really cannot gauge how I feel about this one.

    3. Monsters, Inc. - I enjoyed this one a lot, and I was in High School. Don't agree with you.

    2. Aladdin - Absolutely don't agree with you, but it's your opinion. I loved the packaging this movie came with. I had the Genesis game and loved playing it.

    1. HSM - Agreed. 'Nuff said.
Shepard of Suburbia Posted 4 years 2 months ago
Well I would've given this a thumbs down if The Nightmare Before Christmas was on the list, but I like your explaining on the following being overrated:

    Roger Rabbit
    Lady and The Tramp
    Lion King 2
    Cars
    Monsters INC
    Aladdin
    High School Musical

The others I was really surprised.

    Mulan

When I first Mulan, it was downright Hilarious and had a good soundtrack, in fact the scene with the matchmaker, burning her butt is one of my favorite moments in a Disney movie.

    Toy Story 2

I certainly thought it was better than the first one for several reasons. The big one is that it was certainly alot less vile and dark than the first one. Their wern't all those threats involved in the first about whose abetter toy or not. Also the songs were decent, just at the same level as the first.

    Tarzan

Who cares if Tarzan wheres brown underwear his whole life. This movie was beautifully animated and well put together. The soundtrack of this movie was so INCREDIBLE, how do you hate it.

I do agree with you on 101 Dalmations being underratted, I like that movie. That and Robin Hood need more attention.

    mm117 Posted 4 years 2 months ago
I saw Cars in the theater and I couldn't tell you a thing about the plot. I also find it overrated; it was long and felt sort of boring to me, so I can only imagine what it was like for for the children in the audience.
WinegumZero Posted 4 years 2 months ago
Hmm kinda weird how you call this a list of overrated films when you go around defending the first three on the list. However, the topic and choices are controversial, and you definitely have an argument with some choices. I absolutely despised Cars, don't know what the hell High School Musical is (all I know is from the South Park episode). Some choices are cool, some I don't agree with, but hey it's all opinions anyway.

Oh yeah and Lion King 2 sucked, part 3 was pretty funny and original though.

This is a pretty decent article if you take into consideration that these are just his opinions. He didn't really slam the movies too much (except High School Musical, and let's face it...it deserves it).

The only thing he got wrong is the claim that the sequel couldn't possibly be better than the original...which for "Toy Story 2," it was. Just like it was for "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Aliens," both of which were better than the originals.

So, I'm giving thumbs up just because of the work done to put the list together.

101 Dalmatians overrated? No, I think that belongs to The Jungle Book.

    Anyway, here's my thoughts:

    Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Did I see it theatrically?: Yes.

Well, it's only overrated if you look at it as an animated movie. Otherwise, it deserves it's success.

    Lady and the Tramp

Did I see it theatrically?: Yes, as a reissue.

No, this movie is often classified as a moving Norman Rockwell painting. It deserves it's success.

The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride

Did I see it theatrically?: No, because it was never in theatres.

I will agree that it's not as good as the first movie, but I will go and watch it here and there.

    Mulan

Did I see it theatrically: No.

I might have thought Disney was just for kids at this point, but I still like to watch it. In theatres, it did better than The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules.

    Cars

Did I see it theatrically?: No.

If you ask people for a worst Pixar film, they'll probably say "A Bug's Life", but I think this is probably Pixar's true worst.

    Toy Story 2

Did I see it theatrically?: No.

I was seeing "Pokemon: the First Movie" again. Blunder on my part.

    Tarzan

Did I see it theatrically?: No.

    See Mulan.

    Monsters, Inc.

Did I see it theatrically?: No.

It's not that good a film. The most serious problem is it's lack of cast support.

    Aladdin

Did I see it theatrically?: Yes.

Dude...I have a soft spot for this movie.

    High School Musical

Did I see it theatrically?: No.

I never saw it. No comment.

I'm confused, you say you don't hate all of these movies yet you come off as so negative against them. As for Aladdin, it's highly popular because, well, it's a damn good movie. Good story, good characters, breathtaking animation, highly memorable songs, it's got everything. It's also like an animated Raiders of the Lost Ark, which is probably why it has so many guy fans. And while I agree that it's not better than The Lion King, I personally think its better than Snow White, which is FAR more overrated. Snow White may be groundbreaking for its time, and does in fact have superb animation, but it also lacks what I consider to be more substantial qualities. Compare Snow White to Jasmine. Jasmine, is a strong, appealing female, and Snow White is a shallow, helpless, one-dimensional twit. Ultimately all she wants is some rich guy to come take her away, while Jasmine would rather fall in love despite financial security. As for Toy Story 2, what's wrong with people liking it more than part 1? It's not uncommon for people to enjoy a sequel more than the original. Aliens and X2 are good examples of sequels that can be considered improvements over their predecessors (NOT including Lion King II, but that goes without saying). And as hard as it may be to believe, I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who think 101 Dalmatians is overrated.

For someone who's a HUGE Disney fan you sure love to hate on it. I do agree though that High School Musical is crap.

Here's the one good reason Aladdin is better than 101 Dalmatians:

    Because YOU like 101 Dalmations.

    Disney is fail
blueluigi Posted 4 years 2 months ago
Oh yeah, and also, I missed the part where you said that if it came out in the 80s, then we probably would have apperciated it more. I agree with that statement. Since this is a new generation, I feel that once Disney stops making High School Musical, then people would probably look back at that film and talk about how it was their favorite movie as a kid.

High School Musical is definatly overrated. I haven't seen it, but it seems so overhyped that I think I would stay away from it.

Thank You. Ever since the first one I thought High School Musical was overrated. Have you seen that episode of South Park where they make fun of it? That whole episode is exactly what I was thinking watching the movies. I give the article a thumbs up, even though you put my mom's favorite Disney animated movie on here (Lady and the Tramp).

I'm 27 and I can't beleive, as a man, you have seen High School Musical. My wife won't even watch that junk. I mean wow........
    kamui815 Posted 4 years 2 months ago
Totally agree! High School Musical is too overrated for an a dime store movie.
    garion22 Posted 4 years 2 months ago
I can only agree with Lion King 2, a god awful movie, and High School Musical...the rest are definitely not over rated.
    Score:
    -31
