Neat article. The cursing in the abc news add caught me off-guard. Surprising, but shame on them. lol.

It's funny how every other ad was for a different brand of cigarettes and then halfway through they have an ad for how to quit smoking. It looks like cigs and booze ruled the advertising roost back then. Also hilarious to read the descriptions of shows like MacGuyver and Growing Pains and how they "might catch on..." Very fun scans, thanks!

I agree with ProphetSword! I was always especially happy to grab a Preview issue of the TV Guide, tear it open to see which shows have a chance of coming back, and what shows are going to be given a chance to compete on the air. Since this was before the internet, it was very hard to know if your favorite show was coming back or not for the new season, except by either reading the TV Guide's "Returning Favorites" issue or watching some type of entertainment show, like "Entertainment Tonight", etc. Believe me, there were a lot of snore fest shows out there, but reading the previews of the new shows always sparked some excitement that I needed to see this show, at least once, just to give it a chance.

I love looking at lists of old shows and seeing which ones survived and became classics, which ones barely made it, and which ones failed so miserably, we don't even remember them.
