Ecto Cooler for Adults...

The legendary beverage grows up...

Short and Sweet, but here it goes...

My god I miss this beverage. It was first introduced as Ecto Cooler shortly after the Real Ghostbusters premiered in 1986. Then it was changed to Shoutin' Orange Tangergreen in 2001. Then it was changed again to Crazy Citrus Cooler in 2006 and as of 2007, the drink is no longer made. Sure it was just green orange drink to some but I always thought of it as more because of its legacy with the Ghostbusters movies and cartoons. Plus Slimer was an awesome little green ghost.

Today I made an Ecto Cooler cocktail at lunch. Here's the recipe:

Ecto Cooler Cocktail

Yields: 1

-2 juice boxes of Hi-C Orange Lavaburst or 1 glass of OJ
-1 shot of vodka
-2 drops of green food coloring
-ice to your liking or chill the juice before hand

It's basically a green screwdriver unless you use the Hi-C drink.

Yeah, I tried Orange Lavaburst, but it just wasn't the same, not even when I closed my eyes. I don't really care if they bring it back under a different name, I just want the original Ecto Cooler formula to be put back into production. Anyway, I'm not a drinker but thanks for the recipe anyway.

Yeah I agree with you. I was just thinking that was what the guy probably meant to say, since grenadine is red.

...So I was doing so research as to what happened with our beloved Ecto Cooler. Since Orange Lavaburst apparently is not the true heir, it looks like it's as close as we are going to get. (I personally can't tell the difference anyway).

-From 1984-1997 We had Ecto Cooler with Slimer on the box
-From 1998-2001 It was just Ecto Cooler with no little green guy
-In 2001 they re-branded it to Shoutin' Orange Tangereen
-Sometime in 2003 Hi-C started advertising "Won't Stain" on the box, and they took the green dye out (juice now looks like beer piss)
-In 2006, Shoutin' Orange Tangergreen was renamed Crazy Citrus Cooler
-In 2007, Crazy Citrus Cooler was discontinued

That is the sad fate of Ecto Cooler. Apparently it had a little bit of tangerine flavor mixed in with the orange. It looks like Orange Lavaburst is the closest thing you can get today.

ah, ecto cooler... i drank that stuff for lunch every single day in elementary school. i've never been a fan of vodka but i'm tempted to try this.

Yeah Grenadine is red, I'm guessing he meant to say Midori? Anyway that would add a melon flavor to the mix, but it might make the drink more viable at bars... I want to be able to say "gimmie an Ecto Cooler"!

This almost was a forum post but as I wrote it I got excited and took some pictures!! No, its not the most elaborate article and it will soon be gracing the back page with the rest of the reject articles but I thought I'd share the awesome time I had yesterday afternoon with the rest of yous guys. I also haven't come up with anything real article-worthy for a while but I've been brain storming like crazy. This week is spring break and maybe I'll come up with something neat and actually worth a read. I may either finish my "For the Love of Sega" article or write a new article on Disney Adventures (complete w/ real pictures from 1995!!). BTW, don't knock the glass I used. I was the first one I grabbed and its not a big deal.
