Cartoon Ranting

A little article about cartoons that I'm sick and tired of!

Okay, if you're expecting this to be another respective "TV Sucks Now" article, think again. This article is going to focus on a few specific cartoons that I am just sick and tired of (as well as some that I'd rather watch over them). These are all cartoons that are just driving me crazy with their popularity. Just a forewarning, if you like any of the shows I rant about, I totally respect that, but remember that this is all my opinion. Also, for your enjoyment, I'm going to say everything in sort of a humorous style.

---

You know what I'm sick of?

Scooby-Doo!

I can't stand this dumb dog! I never liked him. What I don't understand is that he's been around since the 70's, and he's still overwhelmingly popular! How does he do that? What is there about this dog? Well, he's horribly comedic, you can't understand a word he's saying, he has an annoying laugh, he has a bottomless stomach, and he's always finding a way to steal the spotlight. So, what kind of a dog is Scooby-Doo? He is not a dog! Well, he's supposed to be a great dane, but he doesn't look a thing like one. Scooby has a ton of different TV series. There's "Scooby-Doo Where Are You?". Then there's "The Scooby-Doo Show", which is basically the same thing. Then we've got "The New Scooby-Doo Movies", which is basically a 1-hour version where they meet all these guest stars like Don Knotts. "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo" which introduced Scooby's nephew; this show went through numerous variations: it started with just Scooby, Scrappy and Shaggy, then later, Daphne was added, then finally, the rest of the gang came in. Then there was "The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo", which had those two ghosts who looked like the Cheese Head mascot. Then there was "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo", which was a younger version of Scooby. Now we've got a new series called "What's New, Scooby-Doo?" Don't you think that's enough Scooby shows? What is his secret? He also had a handful of movies throughout the years. The only movie I find enjoyable is the live-action Scooby-Doo, which was an insult to the canine, and that's why I liked it.

You know what I'd rather watch?

101 Dalmatians.

Now this is a canine show that is entertaining to watch. I'd rather see cute little dalmatians trying to save their home then watch a "great dane" with a bad sense of humor solve mysteries. If you thought this show was an insult to the movie, then go choke yourself! This cartoon series is worthy of coming out on DVD, but lots of people don't seem to be getting their hopes up. It really sucks that this show only lasted half a year while Scooby's been an active character since 1969!

---

You know what I'm sick of?

Winnie the Pooh!

Okay, so he may not be too bad for a Disney character, but I don't think it's necessary to be seeing him all over the place. This bear stole the Country Bears' home at Disneyland! A bear of very little brain he is for certain! You know what else kinda bugs me? He's a stuffed animal. He always seems to get these so-called "rumblies in his tumbly", and he eats nothing but honey. One cannot live on honey alone. That just creeps me out that not only did they bring a stuffed animal to life, but they gave him a digestive system! Many of us have all been wondering where all that honey goes. It also amazes me that he made it through all those battles he had with swarms of bees. Remember the classic Pooh shorts? Yeah, those were his glory days, back when Sterling Holloway was doing his voice. Over the years, it seems like Pooh was just gradually getting worse. Today, he's got that horrible computer-animated show, "My Friends Tigger and Pooh". Gosh, will that bear ever leave us alone?

You know what I'd rather watch?

Lilo & Stitch.

Winnie the Pooh may be a cartoon icon beloved around the world, but so is Stitch. Stitch is much cooler and cuter than that orange bear will ever be! Stitch and Lilo make an excellent team. I really hope Disney makes more movies and shows with Lilo and Stitch, but if they start going CG on me, things will start to look pretty ugly.

---

You know what I'm sick of?

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends!

The Cartoon Cartoons on Cartoon Network are now a thing of the past. Today, we have to deal with shows like this! "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" is a completely boring show with no plot and no entertainment. It was created by Craig McCracken, the creator of "The Powerpuff Girls". What annoys me is that there are so many people who like this show; they keep saying that it's incredible and way better than "The Powerpuff Girls", but they're not giving a valid explanation as to why! It's just like giving bad criticism on TV these days ("It sucks, period!"). So, somebody give me a GOOD reason as to why this show is so good, and maybe I'll start watching it, and if I start to enjoy it, this will be removed from my list.

You know what I'd rather watch?

The Powerpuff Girls.

"The Powerpuff Girls" should have stayed! This show has tons of action and comedy, but that's not all. There's a special kind of touch this show has. There's just something about "The Powerpuff Girls" that always left a happy feeling in my heart. "Foster's" doesn't do the same, so that's why I think Craig McCracken should have continued with the Powerpuffs and not moved on to something like "Foster's".

---

You know what I'm sick of?

The Fairly Odd Parents!

Okay, I admit, there are a lot of fans of this show. Just to be fair, this isn't really a horrible show. I've watched a lot of episodes, and it is pretty entertaining. However, I am totally sick of the fact that I'm seeing Fairly Oddparents merchandise all over the shops! This obviously indicates that it's a popular show, and I will tend to grow sick of it! I'm surprised that Nick hasn't made a Fairly Oddparents movie yet. Still, I admit that it is sometimes a funny show. Overall, this one's not bad.

You know what I'd rather watch?

Dexter's Laboratory.

This show is genius! Not only because Dexter is a genius, but every episode is packed full of entertaining stuff, and it's so original. I mean, in "The Fairly Oddparents", Cosmo and Wanda give Timmy whatever he wishes for, but Dexter gets whatever he wishes for on his own just from making something in his lab! This show is just classic. People of any age can enjoy this cartoon while "Fairly Odd Parents" is aimed more at kids.

---

You know what I'm sick of?

Spongebob Squarepants!

What is it about Spongebob that makes him so gosh darn popular? Moreover, why do we have to see Spongebob in every little nook and cranny in the Universe? It's not like he's the only entertaining character on the planet, but I want to know what the deal is with Spongebob! There are tons of people I know who actually like this show, but like "Foster's", they're not giving any valid explanation as to why the show is so good. Okay, so he's a square-shaped sponge. That's original, I guess, but he's annoying! I'm sick of looking at his overly happy face and hearing that irritating voice of his! I won't go too far on the fact that there are so many Spongebob fans, because there are plenty of Spongebob haters out there too.

You know what I'd rather watch?

CatDog.

Was this really the start of Nickelodeon's downfall? From my perspective, no. "CatDog" was a pretty good show. I was actually a fan of this show when it was active. This is a Nicktoon that I believe is worth watching. Heck, I'm a fan of Steven Banks, who wrote some of the episodes (he writes for "Spongebob" too). Sure, it may not be "Ren and Stimpy", but at least it's more worth watching then "Spongebob". In fact, I'd choose just about any cartoon over "Spongebob" any day!

---

You know what I'm sick of?

Dora the Explorer!

"Dora the Explorer" is just another wacky scheme that Nickelodeon set up just so they can make money off of useless toys. The show itself is just as annoying as the amount of merchandise. I said this before in my "There's Nothing Good on TV" article, but every episode is just dragged out and tedious. Man, education these days is just not at it's finest anymore. It's one thing to teach kids a little Spanish, but to scream at the top of their lungs? Isn't that something you're not supposed to do? And what's with all these toys that they're making? We've got a Dora who sings "The Happy Song", a Dora the Explorer kitchen, a Dora who turns into a mermaid. Do you recall any of that happening in the show? Why don't I ever see Boots toys anywhere? Boots is way more entertaining of a character than Dora is!

You know what I'd rather watch?

Care Bears.

This was my source of education when I was little. Rainbow-colored bears, each with his/her own personality, who taught children how important it was to express your feelings and care about others. That's what I call education at it's finest. The cartoon series may not be the best cartoon series, but the movies are far more superior. When I have kids, I'm going to raise them on the Care Bears, not Dora the Explorer!

---

You know what I'm sick of?

The Simpsons!

Okay, all you hard core Simpsons fans, please don't freak out or downvote this article just because I'm mentioning this; remember, this is just my opinion! This is just unbelievable! This cartoon series has been in production since 1989, and it's the longest-running cartoon series in history! It's still just as popular as it ever has been! What gives here? How does it stay so popular? What is Matt Groening's secret? This show is very VERY overrated! It's meant to be a sit-com, so I can understand why there are so many fans, but I think it's amazing that a lot of fans know so much about the series. This series has been running for ages, and there's an enormous ammount of episodes! Primarily, this show is all about Homer Simpson, because he literally gets all the laughs. I'm sure there are some haters of this show, and there are plenty of old-school Simpsons fans who think the show isn't funny anymore. In the summer of 2007, a Simpsons movie was finally made after an almost 20 year run and high popularity. When I first heard about it, I thought that it would flop and lead to the show's cancelation (that's what always happens with TV series'). Well, is that what happened? No. "The Simpsons Movie" actually turned out to be a huge hit, and the show is still in production! Why am I not surprised? Because it's the freaking Simpsons! Those Simpsons will never lose their popularity! That show will never be cancelled as long as Matt Groening is still living! They rule the freaking world!

You know what I'd rather watch?

Family Guy.

Now, this is what I call an entertaining animated sit-com. "Family Guy" is a lot more realistic than "The Simpsons" because, well, they're not yellow. While this show is popular as well, I think people are guaranteed to laugh harder at "Family Guy" then they are "The Simpsons". Everything on "Family Guy" that I've witnessed seems to be very original, while "The Simpsons" tends to be a little cliche. From my perspective, you can't go wrong with "Family Guy", because there's always something on the show that'll make you laugh.

---

Well, those are all the cartoons I want to rant about. I just can't stand it anymore! I don't want to deal with these popular cartoons! They're driving me crazy! I just...

I just...

Grrr! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! I GOTTA LET OUT MY AGGRESSIONS!!!

Note: The pic above was drawn for me by my friend and our fellow member, TreyVore, who gave me permission to use this pic for my article.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Alright, I'm all done with my rantings. I'm sure there are plenty of you who are fans of the shows I said I'm sick of, but no offense. I respect everyone's fandom, but this is just my point of view. I just hope you all understand how I feel. Thank you, and I will appreciate your comments when I read them.

Okay, I gave it more thought...

Growing up, I always loved Scooby Doo. I took an interest in all the series and the first live action movie which I thought was pretty good. The only series I never liked was 'A Pup Named Scooby Doo' because it was kinda corny. Dalmatian is one of my favorite dog breeds, but I never really cared for 101 Dalmatians, so I'd choose Scooby over that.

I was a Pooh fan when I was little, but Stitch is is one of the most loveable, adorable, funniest Disney characters ever... I'm going to be equal on this one because I love Stitch but Pooh was still a big part of my childhood.

Foster's is a pretty fun show to watch. It's just a bunch of zany, wacky fun, and the characters are funny. But aw man, I loved the Power Puff girls when I was little... While I like both shows I'd have to go with the Powerpuffs.

I like Fairly Oddparents, but I always liked Dexter more. So I'd go with him. (Oh, and there has been a Fairly Oddparents movie, but it was a TV movie.)

I like both Spongebob (even though the new eps are beginning to annoy me) and CatDog equally.

I hate Dora. The Care Bears were a part of my childhood; I'd definitely choose them over that fucking annoying Dora.

I don't watch the Simpsons religiously, but I'll watch it here and there and I like it, but when I saw an episode of Family Guy it just didn't flow with me. My favorite animated show aimed at adults is Futurama.

Personally, I wouldn't pick 101 Dalmations over Scooby Doo. I would pick most of Hanna-Barbera's cartoons from the '60s. Also, I don't consider Family Guy to be superior than the Simpsons, or visce versa. They are both great and funny cartoons. I would also pick Disney's Mr. Toad over Pooh. Since Pooh also caused the closure of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in Disney World and that he is more entertaining than both Pooh and Stitch combined (though I liked the first Stitch movie)
    Trueblue94 Posted 3 years 11 months ago
My last comment got fucked up. XD I'd choose Scooby over Dalmatains, because 101 Dalmatians wasn't one of my favorites, so I don't know if I'd like the series. I think both Simpsons and Family Guy are good, but I prefer Simpsons. I agree with you on everything else, and overall this is a good article:)

Scooby Doo>101 Dalmatians (the movie wasn't one of my favorites, so I'm not sure how much I'd like the series)
    Pooh
    iLoveEdwardCullen23 Posted 4 years 4 months ago
I agree with MrCleveland. "Rugrats" and "Doug" were two of my favorites growing up. The "Rugrats" always kept me entertained as a little girl. The babies were adorable, and I loved how they always found something new to do. "Doug" was very original, and each episode was different and entertaining.
    iLoveEdwardCullen23 Posted 4 years 4 months ago
I agree with most of these. "The Powerpuff Girls" were one of my favorite shows when I was a little girl. Now they make these stupid shows that don't even appeal to most kids. "The Powerpuff Girls" were much better, and I wish it wasn't cancelled.

"Dora the Explorer" is a stupid show, that only appeals to 3 year olds. "Care Bears" was a lot better, and always made me feel good. They should still have that instead of this Dora crap.

Okay, now "The Simpsons" has always been my favorite over "Family Guy". They are two of my favorites, but I have always found "The Simpsons" better. I have been watching "The Simpsons" since I was little and I think that might be why it has always been my favorite. It has always been hilarious, and always will be. I also thought that the movie would bomb, and the series would end. But of course it didn't because well, it's THE SIMPSONS :D

Hiro Posted 4 years 10 months ago
I'm with you on Scooby-Doo. I can't stand to watch any of the series because they are all repetitive and it's basically seen one episode, seen them all. One of the worst cartoons ever.

Care Bears is just a 30 minute sappy toy commerical. Ick.

Family Guy has never been my cup of tea, I personally find the show overrated and not funny. The Simpsons is one of the best shows IMO. I'd rather watch a new episode of the Simpsons over any Family Guy episode.
Harpsiccord Posted 4 years 11 months ago
While we have vastly different tastes (every show you're sick of, save for Dora, I like/love whereas most of the shows, Save for Family Guy, that you love I never found interesting) the article was very well written. It was! You expressed yourself really well and made valid points and most importantly, you reminded us that it's strictly opinion. For that, I up-voted. I know you'll get downvotes for this, but you know what? It's a fantastic article and people on das intarwebs are quite immature and vindictive. The only way to avenge their beloved shows is to downvote. It's no comment on you whatsoever.

I'll see ya in the commercial comments. Looking forward to more lists.

I'm sorry to say it, but I LOVE "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" (but not "What's New, Scooby-Doo!";) and "The Simpsons," and I also kinda like Winnie-the-Pooh (well, the old theatrical featurettes and the late-1980s Saturday morning cartoon, not the new CGI series or the direct-to-video sequels) But I have to agree with you, I don't like "The Fairly Oddparents" or "Spongebob Squarepants" or "Forster's Home for Imaginary Friends." And I also like "Family Guy," and I kinda like "Dexter's Laboratory" (mostly the first season)

well i just wanted to share my opinion with everyone about what she said because it really pissed me off. well im going to start from the first cartoon she made fun of. listen scooby doo is not a dumb dog hes cute and hes funny and thats the exact reason hes still popular there is your answer to that. you have absolutely no reason to make fun of him because he eats alot. okay and there are so many shows and movies about him because its a good show for LITTLE KIDS it doesnt have to please you unless your freaking 5 years old. but it pleases me because it is a good show and it doesnt need your aproval. yo you need to stop dissing winnie the pooh that show has been around FOREVER and its been a really big favorite of everyone else. you just dont have good taste. and how are you going to sit there and say that a stuffed animal with a digestive system scares you. because if that scares you then you need help. ITS A FUCKING CARTOON FOR LITTLE KIDS and again it doesnt need your aproval. now listen here you went WAYYY to far when you insaulted fosters home for imaginary friends.! that show is a great show. its halirous too. it deffinately is not a boring show if you acutally sat down and watched it you would laugh your ass off hunny. and dont tell me you wouldnt because this show is one of thee best shows. and i have news for you its basically like family guy you like that show so much what plot does that show have.? exactly hunny it doesnt have any plot but its still halirous. like i said its a halirous show just like family guy or the simpsons or anyother show thats funny. as for the powerpuff girls i think they should have gotten rid of it a lonnnng time ago now that makes no sence hunny do you see little girls flying around with powers with heads bigger than their bodies fighting "monsters" and "dragons" and what not.? no i didnt think so. and if you do you seriously need to get your head checked. and your right fairlyodd parents arent bad at all. but just like any other show its going to have murchindise everywhere. hunny this isnt a world where you get everything you want. people arent just going to stop selling tv shows murchindise because your getting sick of seeing it everywhere.!!! and again just like fosters, dexters lab HAS NO PLOT.!!! you should really think about things before you say them. hunny there are plenty more spongebob lovers than haters. spongebob teaches kids things okay. like how to be happy all the time and not let little things get you down for no reason. and again its for little kids. as for the simpsons its a FUNNY SHOW. you really need to check yourself because this show is just as funny as family guy. hunny you say that family guy is a lot more realistic than the simpsons.? your COMPLETELY WRONG.!! the day you see a talking dog that smokes and drinks along with an evil, talking baby that tries to kill his mother then you can come to me and say that its more realistic than the simpsons. atleast their baby isnt evil and their dog doesnt get pulled over for driving drunk. and just like theres always something on family guy that will make you laugh there will always be something on the simpsons or fosters to make you laugh. hunny you really need to think before you say things because you made no sense when you wrote this artical. so maybe you should sit down and watch the shows that "suck" before you judge them. because most of the shows you dissed were REALLY great shows.! and i read some of these comments and some of you people just think your better than everyone else and guess what ive got a news flash YOUR NOT.! you people need to stop dissing family guy and the simpsons and fosters and scooby doo and all these good shows. honestly how are you going to sit there and compare the powerpuff girls to family guy and fosters.? you cant. and just like you guys "im just leaving my opinion". mmkay thanks.

you need to calm down I grew up on winnie the pooh I do agree whith you on the power puff girl thing but that photo at the end was to far
    StarSprinkles84 Posted 5 years 2 months ago
I love the pic your friend drew :) Pooh and Scooby suck! Spongebob actually has went downhill and Foster's is actually on it's way. I've never cared for FOP either. Quite honestly, I agreed with this whole article :) Good job :) You always write entertaining articles.
    Arcee23 Posted 5 years 2 months ago
I must admit, I'm sick to death of Winnie the Pooh and Scooby Doo, but Fosters isnt so bad, but not as good as the Powerpuff Girls.
I dont care much for Dora either but I'm forced to have it on because my little boy likes it, her voice is headache inducing. Has anyone noticed that when you see Dora and Diego together, Dora's head is abselutely massive in comparison to Diego's?.
    mlw1984 Posted 5 years 2 months ago
    I never liked Scooby Doo
    ChokerZ99 Posted 5 years 3 months ago
as i was scrolling down and saw Dora the Explorer, i started to laugh. i was kind of hoping you would put Go, Diego, Go! for the "you know what i'd rather watch" part, and say like "i hate dora, i prefer diego. he's much more badass" and then just leave it at that. oh well.
Dexter's Lab was indeed awesome by the way. I used to watch that on the pre-Adult Swim CN days, along with Batman, Johnny Quest(the new adventures), and then whatever anime show they decided to throw on that year or fiscal quarter.
Ugh...now that you mention it, I think Scrappy Doo is another reason why I agree with you. I hated that dog sooooo much as a kid, it's partly why I'd change the channel when Scooby Doo came on.
dalmatianlover Posted 5 years 3 months ago
For those of you who keep giving this article a thumbs down, try to respect my opinion. This is all just because of what I said about the whole thing on Family Guy and The Simpsons, right? Well, I have no idea of knowing, because I'm not a Simpsons fan! I recall someone saying that I was too young to watch The Simpsons during it's early days, and whoever said that is right. My mom never let me watch The Simpsons during it's early days, and even if she did, I was probably too young to appreciate any of the jokes. Family Guy is sort of a new generation Simpsons. I appreciate the words that TreyVore said, and for the uninitiated, this is what he said:

"For those who say "Family Guy" is a rip-off of the Simpsons, I don't think that's any further from the truth. For starters, The Simpsons is not an original idea. It can be seen as a contemporary Flintstones, which in turn was a cartoon stone age version of The Honeymooners. What's important
is the execution, not the originality."
AsdfTheRevival Posted 5 years 3 months ago
...But I do agree with you about Foster's Home for the Imaginary Friends and The Simpsons. Spongebob was a really good show in its first couple seasons but after 2005-06 it started to suck. It's Nick's fault the show is so popular. They over marketed it. The first episodes are pretty intelligent, but noone wants to watch one episode because of Nick's mass marketing.
AsdfTheRevival Posted 5 years 3 months ago
I'm sorry but this is COMPLETELY a "TV Sucks Now" article. All you did was add what you'd rather watch instead.

Also I don't know what's so great about Care Bears and Family Guy. Care Bears was nothing more than a cheap 22 minute commercial for the Care bear dolls. Family Guy is nothing more than a bunch of pop culture references combined with some stupid random humor. It's just not funny to me at all.
    Braver_than_Brand Posted 5 years 3 months ago
"Also, for your enjoyment, I'm going to say everything in sort of a humorous style."

    "Sort of" is right.
sailormoondefender Posted 5 years 3 months ago
i have to say all the i agree with u and i like half of the shows you hate but the reason why i hate them is the followers! its like this .... omg i love sponge bob then some one else over hears and says oh i love it to (* thinking in his head* i never heard it) thats wat i hate about it
    pdiss88 Posted 5 years 3 months ago
I laugh maybe once an episode in Family Guy (and yes, I've caught every episode). I feel that too much time is spent making nostalgic but sometimes obscure pop culture references to things members of Generation X would remember from their youth. When 10 minutes of your show are used alluding to things your target demographic (read: 14 year-olds) will absolutely NEVER understand or 7-minute chicken fights (don't even try to defend those as "hilarious" or something like that, it's obvious filler by the creators when they realize they can't stretch their pathetic plot past 12 minutes), you're missing the point. As a repercussion for all this tomfoolery and discontinuation, you completely forget what was going on in the episode or you really don't get anything out of it and it starts to feel like a Robot Chicken episode (15 skits jammed into 15 minutes with no specific ordering). So yeah, Family Guy sucks. And I didn't even use the generic South Park fan critique from Cartoon Wars (even though that was true, too). However, I do enjoy the skin tones of the characters in Family Guy, also. It lets me know I'm not watching Doug.
Narf Posted 5 years 3 months ago
"Oh please, 101 Dalmations the TV series is just a rip off of the 101 Dalmations movie."
    It wasn't a rip-off, it was a spin-off. Silly.
Benjanime Posted 5 years 3 months ago
why would you take family guy over simpsons...? both are great!
    greatmemories90 Posted 5 years 3 months ago
Well, i sorta like Foster's. I mean, some of the episodes are sorta pointless, but some of them are pretty good. It keeps me entertained. Anyway, Fosters is about a little boy who has an imaginary friend named Blue. His mom won't let him keep his imaginary friend, so Blue has to go to Foster's home for imaginary friends, a place where imaginary friends can get adopted. As long as Mac (the little boy) goes to Foster's everyday to hang out with Blue, he doesn't get put up for adoption. Anyway, it's just about Mac and Blue's zany adventures, along with some of the other imaginary friends. Blue is a little self-centered and annoying, but you get used to him. the plot lines are so crazy and funny, that you just have to laugh out loud. It may seem sorta lame from first glance, but it's a decent cartoon once you get used to it.
Yah, Scooby sorta sucks. I absolutely LOVE powerpuff girls, and i used to be OBSESSED. Awwww....i used to LOVE carebears. But now, i find them really overrated with all the stuffed animals coming out. reeeeeeeeally annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i loved the TV series as a kid.
TheGrimmSleeper Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I agree with probably less than half of these. I don't see how skin tone makes family guy more realistic, especially since, as has already been said, Family Guy has ripped the Simpsons off for years.

I tend to agree with a few of your options, like Foster's Home and the Fairly Odd Parents.

Oh please, 101 Dalmations the TV series is just a rip off of the 101 Dalmations movie.

MrCleveland Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I agree with you with the shows you can't stand (Except for Foster's Home, but I really hate Bloo) but for what I'd rather watch is this....

Instead of Scooby-Doo-I would watch 'Loopy de Loop'. He's a French-Canadian wolf that was Hanna-Barbera's only theatrical realease besides Tom and Jerry and no one understands him even when he helps out.

In stead of Winnie the Pooh-I would watch 'Donald Duck'. He always gets the short end of the stick and gets it in the end (literally). And also he has a cool family.

Instead of Foster's-I would watch 'Animaniacs', 'Tiny Toons', 'Tom and Jerry', or 'Looney Tunes'. They have crazy characters as well as Foster's.

Instead of Fairly-Odd Parents-I would watch 'Garfield'. Garfield see a lot of odd things happen and in the 'U.S. Acres' segment, Orson Pig has a wild Walter Mitty-like imagination.

Instead of Spongebob-I would watch 'Doug' or 'Rugrats'. This is what started Nicktoons.

Instead of Dora-I would watch 'Sesame Street'. Yes, there were some good animated segments and when they do Spanish, it's never 'shout it out'.

Instead of the Simpsons-I would watch 'Family Guy', 'Futurama', 'Aqua Teen', or 'South Park'. Like The Simpsons, they aim toward an older audience.

    ...But this is my opinion.
djbriguy Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Easy on the SIMPSONS vs. Family Guy dude... Especially on the comment about Family Guy being "more original."

Family Guy bites off of Simpsons, and down right plagerizes them. Search youtube for "Family Guy Simpsons" and watch the comparisons.

Don't get me wrong though, i love family guy. Definetly a "Simpsons" for the new generation.
    theguilty1 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I love Family Guy, but that show has ripped off soooo many ideas from the Simpsons that were much funnier on the Simpsons. It's all personal taste, but Family Guy is not that original. I'm not saying that makes it a bad show, because I love FG. Simpsons had already begun to lose it's stride by the time Family Guy started, but FG owes so much to the Simpsons.
TreyVore Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Look out, everyone. I'm about to deliver my thoughts.

Scooby-Doo: I never was a fan of Scooby-Doo. In all honesty...I think the 1970s gave us some better shows (I would prefer Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids); Scooby-Doo is just 'okay' even for its time. Check this link:

    http://www.animateddreams.net/scooby.html

101 Dalmatians: the Series: wholeheartedly agree, this show is underrated and deserves a better deal. And for General Tso, who wrote "Also, while I agree that the new incarnations of Scooby Doo are pure crap, I would sooner burn every copy of 101 Dalmations on video or in print than to lose one episode of the 70s Scooby Doo.", all I can say is "bite your tongue".

Winnie the Pooh: It's not a bad series, but there are too many movies and merchandise for a franchise this simple.

Lilo and Stitch: yes, I agree here. I loved the "Lilo and Stitch" franchise (Stitch Has A Glitch, not so much) and would love to see more. I can't go back to the movie without the series. IAH: I once visited the DDG (Disney Design Group) in Disney's former Florida animation unit while I worked for them and one of their cast members told me the following:

"Stitch merchandise is hot. But, we are trying to keep it under control, unlike what we did with the Pooh franchise."

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, The Powerpuff Girls, The Fairly OddParents, Dexter's Laboratory, Spongebob Squarepants, CatDog, Dora the Explorer and Care Bears: no comment. All I'll say is I once showed my animation teacher a Flash Care Bears cartoon on NewGrounds and he said he could identify. Because he has a friend who was on the Care Bears series animation team and the team would need to draw something (like the Care Bears fighting, shooting guns, having sex, cursing, brawling, taking a whiz)...you know, ANYTHING to stay sane.

And I admit to being a fan of both The Simpsons and Family Guy. For those who say "Family Guy" is a rip-off of the Simpsons, I don't think that's any further from the truth. For starters, The Simpsons is not an original idea. It can be seen as a contemporary Flintstones, which in turn was a cartoon stone age version of The Honeymooners. What's important
is the execution, not the originality.

Sometimes I do think the Simpsons can just "play it too safe" and I would want to see something of a darker nature occur. That's something that I like about Family Guy: on the Simpsons, there are times when I just want there to be a moment where Lisa enters her 'bitchy' mode and I want to see someone go and slap her across the face...yet, it doesn't happen. That is, however, what I think Meg Griffin is meant to be a spoof of: the bitch daughter that finally gets what she has coming. This is something that I want to get off my chest: later in 2007, one of the board members on the message board I reside on once called me a hypocrite because I hate the Lisa Simpson aspects of the show, while I don't object to something that he deemed similar on a show like "Brandy and Mr. Whiskers". I came to the conclusion that his argument doesn't mean much. Here's how:

Look at some of the movies we got in July 2007:

Near the end of the month, we finally got "The Simpsons Movie". Many people were looking forward to seeing it, although many critics claimed that the movie was coming out about 10 years too late. The movie is on par with the show's 'decline' episodes...don't read that wrong, it was #7 on the Top 10 Highest Grossing Movies of 2007 list, sold well on DVD and holds many laughs...but imagine how much higher in regard it would have been held if The Simpsons Movie came out around in the same
year Disney gave us Hercules (1997) instead of the year they gave us Meet the Robinsons (2007).

Earlier that month, we got..."Transformers". This movie probably had MORE reasons to bomb than "The Simpsons Movie". Here are some examples:

-It's a movie about a toy. (These weren't terribly successful, even in the 1980s...and the last major toy-based movie we got was "Pound Puppies and the Legend of Big Paw", which came out in 1988).
-While not the same old show as The Simpsons is, the Transformers series continues through a series of 'reboots', keeping the giant, transforming alien robot theme the whole time. The Simpsons may have some great seasons (3-8) and some bad seasons (11, 13, 17 and 18) and there are many different continuities of the Transformers of varied degrees of success (for every "G1", "Beast Wars" and "Armada", there is a "Beast Machines", "Robots in Disguise" and "Energon";).
-Many childrens' themed movies are not really toy-based anymore. Now it's all about comic books, trading card games and video games.
-If nothing else, Transformers is five years older than the Simpsons (the latter started in 1989, while the former came out in 1984)

Yet, Transformers (2007) didn't seem to strike anyone as late at all.

And for the record, King of the Hill sucks. That show never was funny. If I want Mike Judge, I'll go watch Beavis and Butt-head.
RetroToon Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I do give old cartoons a chance. I just want to see something else now besides Scooby.
    RadRacer56 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
lol I like that last picture.

    Phantasmagoria_3D Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I agree that "Scooby Doo" is overrated. I've always found it to be very repetitive and boring. Also, I actually prefer "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" over "The Powerpuff Girls" (which was a very lame show, IMO). Furthermore, "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" are both great shows, though some of their newer episodes aren't that funny.
Celeste Posted 5 years 4 months ago
There's the problem right there: he's TOO recognized now! And you say that he's just one of the most iconic Hanna-Barbera characters, but where are the other ones? Where's their recognition? Hanna-Barbera (or should I say Warner Bros.) needs to stop relying on one dog and remember who the other characters are.

I didn't say that Scooby is the only iconic Hanna Barbera character. I said Scooby is the most recognized and iconic Hanna Barbera character.

There are some people in this world who happen to think that Scooby Doo is the best character. I happen to be one of those people who thinks that Scooby Doo is funny.

A lot of the cartoons that are mentioned in this article just aren't that funny to me anymore. Now this is exactly the point that I was trying to make in my "Why Should I Sit Through This?" Article. People like the new shows without even giving the old shows a chance.

I'm done ranting for now I'll go away.
DancePetunia Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Yeah... I'm a big fan of a few of these shows. I like Family Guy and The Simpson's. And... The Simpsons is not cliche, but whatever. I think Foster's is a good cartoon (wow, there actually is a one) but it is VASTLY over-played! Catdog sucks so much ass. I hate it! Anyhoo, I was never a big fan of Scooby-Doo either. I never understood the appeal.
    Mondav87 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I never lilked any cartoons with talking animals, it always seemed unrealistic.
jujubeeme Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I like Family Guy, but they survive more on shock value without the intelligence of South Park. And no, they are not more "realistic" than the Simpsons because they aren't yellow...that's kind of a ridiculous point. Plus they do rip jokes from the Simpsons, if you watch both it's pretty obvious.
dalmatianlover Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I'll have you all know that this article was written by someone who is NOT a Simpsons fan. Just because all you Simpsons fans know that Family Guy ripped some stuff off of The Simpsons does not mean I don't know what originality means. From what I've witnessed, Family Guy has not re-done any jokes that they've used before (I don't think I've seen any redundant episodes), while The Simpsons are just recycling jokes that they've already used over and over again (They should do stuff that's more creative than just Homer does something stupid and we all laugh). Also, every episode of Family Guy has an A story, a B story, and a C story, which makes it interesting to watch; The Simpsons may do the same, but then again, I'm not a hardcore fan, as I said before. The A story focuses on Peter, the B story focuses on Stewie, and the C story focuses on another character. Something else, I thought I'd bring up: Stewie is a mega fan favorite on Family Guy. He's a talking baby who wants to take over the world and kill his mother. So how is that ripping off the Simpsons, hmm? You know what? I think this argument should be moved over to the forums. That's just my suggestion.
Sideswipe Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I agree with you on most counts, except for the Simpsons one, yellowness apart, Family Guy is a rehash of the Simpsons. Which is both good and bad. Good, because the Simpsons could use an update, and bad, because now we have 2 shows doing the exact same thing. Intelligent criticism to the US.
chokeslam Posted 5 years 4 months ago

Riiiiiighttttt, because I'm the one who worries about a cartoon stuffed animal's digestive tract. No wait, that was you. C'mon now if you actually have so little to occupy you mind that you come up with something like that then you have no right to talk about someone else having too much free time.

PS, this further comfirms my assertion that you have no concept of what origionality means since the whole "you have too much time on your hands" bit has got to be he most overplayed and unorigional zing that there is.

Hey I'm sick and tired of SPONGEBOB because he is mischievous and gets too much air-time on Nick. This is why kids misbehave, it's because of all the things they copy on TV. I know what you are thinking, it is like blaming Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, well I tell you something, the downplayed mischief. Spongebob overplays mischief. He (and Patrick) drive Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Crabs and Plankton bananas. It is giving maturity and growing up a bad name.

I am also sick and tired of FOSTER'S HOME FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS because it got so @#$%! annoying. Bloo is bratty, Mac has to be the brains in the gang and along with Frankie and Mr. Herriman, bring order to this insane asylum. Coco is annoying.

As for FAIRLY ODD PARENTS, Timmy is one heck of a tortured soul here. His teacher Mr. Crocker is totally mean and nasty, Francis picks on him, Timmy's parents neglect him and he is with this baby-sitter who is ridiculously evil. How does he get away from it all? One word: FAIRIES!!!

I never lost respect to POWERPUFF GIRLS in general, ditto with DEXTER'S LAB because they inspired my cartooning skills.

I never lost respect to Peanuts, especially with the whole FLASHBEAGLE thing.

LOL, yeah I know! At first I just avoided Family Guy like the loyal Simpsons fan I was but after they did the Star Wars spoof they started to grow on me.

You know instead of 101 Dalmatians I actually would prefer The Flintstones over Scooby myself. I guess a primitave family with stone houses, animal appliances and feet-powered cars feels more original to me than your average 70's group of teenagers and their Mystery Machine. Not to mention The Great Gazoo. Who could forget about him?

You are absolutly right, "The Family Guy" is much more realistic than The Simpsons. Why I was just commenting to my talking dog the other day about how my one year old baby had performed at the origional Woodstock. Then we remanised about the time my neighbor got a job as Sandy Duncan's glass eye. Yes, you just can't get any more real than Than The Family Guy.
Celeste Posted 5 years 4 months ago
If you asked a kid from this generation if they "know who Scooby Doo is?" The chances are good that they'll respond by saying "he's the dog from the show Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get a clue."

Kids today don't have any idea that Scooby Doo is almost 50 years old because they've never been exposed to the shows from the 1960s and 1970s unless they have parents who are fans of the old shows.
    Disneyfan85 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I despise Scooby-Doo and Dora and Foster's! Pooh, I don't particularly care for, but at least he's a little more tolerable, even though, like Scooby, he is overrated, too. I don't particularly care for The Simpsons, either, but at least, given their status of where they are now, is it any wonder how popular they are?

But as much as I don't care for Pooh, he is nothing compared to Stitch! How I hate that little blue beast, even in the movie from which he originated.

Getting back to Dora momentarily (and for that matter, other so-called "educational" shows), what really galls me is that they ask someone a TRULY DUMB question and then they pause for a second as if waiting for an answer and then they shout an affirmative answer: "Yes!" or "That's right!" and others like that. If they ever do another educational show, they should at least make it like Pee-wee's Playhouse. Now THERE's a good show!

And I love Powerpuff Girls and especially Dexter.
shiroihikari Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Personally, I thought even the original Scooby Doo sucked. I mean, the exact same thing happens every damn episode! Shaggy and Scooby eat a bunch of food, the other kids solve a ghost mystery, somebody utters the phrase "you meddling kids", the end. Also consider the awful production values. This is one of those everlasting franchises that always makes me think, "Am I seeing the same thing as everyone else? Because this is lame."

As for Winnie the Pooh, well, I think it's something that should have been laid to rest a long time ago, but I do have fond memories of the original Disney featurettes.

Oh, and I hate Family Guy, and I'm not old. I'm in it's target demographic, actually-- I'm 24. I can't stand it because it's nothing but contrived pop culture jokes and God/Jesus jokes. I just think the whole thing is in ridiculously poor taste.

I actually haven't seen that many episodes of the Simpsons, but I'd rather watch it than Family Guy any day.
Narf Posted 5 years 4 months ago
"BTW how can you hate Scooby Doo? Scooby is one of the most recognized and iconic Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters in the world."
Just because he's recognized and iconic doesn't mean we have to overindulge ourselves in merchandise with the dog's face plastered all over it.
Narf Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I know Dora is for a much younger age demographic than I, but I still think kiddie shows now are of a lesser quality than before. Back in the days of pre-Joe Blue's Clues and Sesame Street before Jim Henson's death, before it became the Elmo hour. And I'm listening to Weird Al's "Barney's on Fire". Watch an old tape of Blue's Clues. Then watch Wonder Pets. Augh, that show actually gives me a headache. Usually when people say something gives them a headache, they're exaggerating. But this show really does give me a headache. Maybe because they SING EVERY DANG THING THAT COMES OUT OF THEIR MOUTH, and it sounds awful. That, and one storyline was a dog that had to pee but was left inside by its owners, so the wonder pets had to let it out so it could piss all over the lawn. What the heck? Whatever happened to Blue and Steve skiddooing into an educational wonderland? It seems like everything's been watered down lately. To quote Katz from Courage the Cowardly Dog, "Sad, isn't it?" Indeed it is, Katz. Indeed it is.

I do agree Scooby has been overplayed, and it's frightening I'm about one year older than Scoob (show debuted in 1969). As for Spongebob, the truth about it if you really scruntize it, is a watered-down version of 'Ren and Stimpy' except here, 'Stimpy's' (aka Spongebob) is the star now, and 'Ren' (aka Squidward) is second or third banana.

They threw in Mr. Krabbs (Scrooge element) and Ms. Puff so critics wouldn't notice the resemblance to the series. The worst part about Squarepants is, the writers are poorly imitating Tex Avery and Walter Lanz, but it's just not there. Instead we end up getting immature jokes only a three-year old might enjoy, and running gags that have been far overplayed.

The reason I like "Family Guy" is the fact Seth McFarlane doesn't hold back with the show, nothing is sacred and the Griffins don't hesitate in exposing that.

The problem now with The Simpsons is Fox won't just let it go fondly into the night. Oh, yes, drop Futurama, but keep cranking out more Homer getting into trouble episodes.

Though I'm not too fond of CatDog, it does have it's merit on its own. Personally, I loved 'Rocko's Modern Life.' Mainly because it was just off-the-wall, and Joe Murray knew what animated comedy really was.
Honestly, I didn't like the second season's revamped theme song, but the show got better and at least Murray knew when it's time had come.

My only beef with 'Fairly Oddparents,' other than the oversaturated merchandising, was it clearly demonstrates how Nick subtly takes over a creator's work. Originally Cosmo wasn't quite as stupid, and the parents weren't actually that moronic. As for Vicky.. but you get the idea.

Because when Butch Hartman (who also helped co-direct some of the original 'Johnny Bravo' episodes) created the series, it was based on a simple concept: 10-year-old ends up getting fairy godparents, one's a bit like Aunt Clara while the other's a bit more sensible, and the wishes don't always work out the way the 10-year-old envisions.

Regrettably, Nick has apparently felt it better to make Cosmo the Stimpy of the group, and Timmy into a jerk at times. Though I've always liked toon crossovers, even I feel the Jimmy/Timmy Hour was not one of Nick's smartest ideas.

Basically I do agree how when something is great, networks unfortunately cash in on it, even when the character is getting really stale and not popular when it first debuted.

Loved the article, because you rarely disappoint with them. Hopefully one day, we'll start seeing better cartoons with writers who know what animation was really about, rather than another altered classic, or overdone series just for the sake of merchandising the crap out of it.

    'Nuff said.

Meh.... with the exception of maybe one or two cartoons, I disagree completely.

Would I rather watch Family Guy than Simpsons? Yea, but not in that respect... because I'm not sick of Simpsons, I'd just rather watch one over the other. Both have their positives & negatives. Simpsons has a storyline, while Family Guy goes for cheap laughs.

However, the biggest beef is the CatDog. That is one of the least funniest, most annoying Nick 'toon shows ever. I never chuckled once, and I've seen a lot of episodes (usually because it was the last possible thing on TV). The rabbit guy is annoying as is that mouse character... not funny. I'll take the most annoying episode of Spongebob (Jellyfish Jam) over any episode of CatDog... but of course, these are all opinion.
DemonEnvy Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I agree with much of this article except for a few things. I wouldn't replace Winnie the Pooh with Lilo and Stitch the series. To me, when I watched Lilo and Stitch the series, it was nothing more than a Pokemon ripoff. Some of the experiments resembled some of the Pokemon. One even looked like Mew. I haven't seen no more of this show and I hope the plug was pulled on this already.

I can't agree with Scooby Doo bashing, especially on the older series. I'll admit the newer series and the live action movies sucked balls though. Sponge Bob and Fairly Odd Parents have been played to death on Nick, and need to be canceled. They mostly have taken up a lot of time on Nick, when they could show something else. The older Simpsons series are better, but they've been playing so long they're fresh out of original ideas and stories. Time to put them to bed, and play the older series on AS. I'll always love Winnie the Pooh, but someone needs to burn all copies of the CGI series.
COOLHAND Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I think its funny that you say the simpsons suck compared to family guy because they are yellow. thats a pretty lame reason honestly. personally i think they have their funny parts but they also both have the dull moments.

Just so you know, famliy guy does tend to rip some jokes off of the simpsons...whether its intentional or not i dont know but still.

The major thing about these shows i can stand is the crappy flat animation...but then again, we arent watching them for technically sound animation, these shows are aimed at getting a cheap laugh so...what ever.

Also, who the hell hates Scooby Doo? or better yet Winnie the pooh?
lamartherevenger Posted 5 years 4 months ago
scooby doo is popular because of the drug culture shaggy represents and kids love semi understandable talking dogs. spongebob is okay, it probably jumped the shark when the movie came out. i'd sooner watch el tigre the adventures of manny rivera (WHITE PANTERA!!!!) than fairly odd parents, but el tigre got cancelled because they needed to show the last season of the teenage pregancy queen. i wasn't a big fan of the most recent disney cartoons. gimme gummi bears and ducktales any day. dora? too young for my tastes. maybe if my kid likes it i'll be forced to watch it. by then he'll only want to watch thomas (oh boy....) simpsons - done. retirement or have the kids at their real age during present day time (no future crap, save that for futurama) that's my opinion and i support this message.
Celeste Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I don't see why anyone couldn't like both the Simpsons and Family Guy! I think it's all a matter of taste. I've liked the Simpsons since I was about 13 or 14 years old. I've liked Family Guy since I was 21 or 22 years old.

Spongeroks Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Even though I like Family Guy, the only problem that I have with it is that all of their jokes are just references to old TV shows, so it's not really original, and the animation isn't that great. The characters in Family Guy may may look more realistic, the antics in the Simpsons are way more realistic than the ones in Family Guy.

Before people start bashing me, this is from someone who really likes Family Guy.

I love the Simpsons from Season 1 to Season 10 but sadly thanks to tired old plots (Homer and Marge's marriage is crisis, Lisa's environmental annoyance, Lisa/Bart disappointed in Homer as a father) The Simpson clan have overstayed their welcome. South Park and Family Guy (while granted maybe not as fresh) are relevant and reflect today’s society. King of the Hill also remains (to me at least) fresh as well due to the writers are willing to changes characters both realistically and physically.

I was also disappointed in the The Simpsons Movie (More of the same in one whole film). I'm glad I only saw it on a plane and didn't waste my time in theater or DVD.

And The Simpson will be replacing the Back to the Future Ride at all Universal Studios parks. I now want to punch James L. Brooks and Matt Groening in the face.

It's sad that the Simpsons get to last this long but we loose Futurama, Firefly, Freaks and Geeks, and now more then likely Journeyman. Some people ask me to defend the Simpsons "Well it's better then Reality Television?"

I tell them "Not by much my friend, not by much."

You are ridiculous. The Simpsons is the best television show of all time. I do love Family Guy, but the Simpsons blows it out of the water. And it is for the simple reason that even South Park's creators agree; the Simpsons can last and be a great show without having to go over the top and cross the line. Shows like that don't exist anymore and the Simpsons is the last of a generation of television shows that spans from the 60's.

I disagreed with a lot of them, Namely Spongebob, Simpsons, Scooby Doo, and Winnie the Pooh. For most of them, you offered good replacements, but at this point, it's all a matter of taste, so think what you want to think. I like articles like these.
    joecool85 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I'm sick of "Catdog". I rather watch "The Angry Beavers"! I don't care what anybody say, I like "Family Guy".

    Good article, though.
Narf Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Another character I'm tired of hearing of is Shrek.
Narf Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Wow, I agree with EVERYTHING in this article. Thumbs up.
MusicPanda Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Most of this article I disagree but I respect your opinion :]

I grew up with the classic scooby doo when they showed it on CN in the 90s and still love it and I also agree that they screwed up when they tried making more series to keep the show alive.

I agree with you on fosters/ppg, I grew up with the powerpuff girls and was pretty upset when they cancelled it because fosters came along. I'm not saying I hate fosters, its an ok show but does get old, to this day I'd rather watch ppg :]

Dexter's Lab is better than fairly odd parents enough said.

I'm still a Spongebob fan because there are a lot of episodes I like and is also original :] Catdog is great too.

People who don't like Family Guy are old people.

    [/opinion rant[
Spongeroks Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Man, when did everybody start hating Family Guy so much? I may have said that none of it is original, but I still like it.
General Tso Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Apart from the rejection of Spongebob, The Fairly Oddparents and Dora, I'd have to say that I disagree with almost everything you covered...particularly your very generous review of the most overrated program in cartoon history: Family Guy. Had you said Futurama, I could see your point, but Family Guy is the laziest comedy I think I've ever seen. Also, while I agree that the new incarnations of Scooby Doo are pure crap, I would sooner burn every copy of 101 Dalmations on video or in print than to lose one episode of the 70s Scooby Doo.
    retroguy78 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
    Fascinating arguments. Well written.
Spongeroks Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I agree with rustyshackleford01, King of the Hill>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Family Guy.

Nothing in Family Guy is original.
Captain Howdy Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Well, that's a very well thought out argument. I'm going to have to say yes. Or no. Whatever.
    Luna2 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
i agree to 95% of this artice i did watch winnie the pooh and still have abit of a soft spot but i hate the CGI cartoon its just wrong. the only probblem i have with family guy is everyone hates meg for no reason and takes it alittle too far for my liking .ps you left out the worst drawn scooby doo with the worst plot and charcters EVER! shaggy and scooby get a clue!!!
davidyck Posted 5 years 4 months ago
so im giving everything but the simpsons part a thumbs up.
davidyck Posted 5 years 4 months ago
great list, though i agree with kylewhite. the simpsons is way better than family guy in my opinion though family guy is still pretty cool.
i agree with you on scooby doo. it was a cool cartoon back in the 70s, but it has been WAY too overused.
    rustyshackleford01 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
kylewhite was right, but I think in the article you should've replaced family guy with King Of The Hill, best adult cartoon show ever
kylewhite Posted 5 years 4 months ago
great artcile, but you lost me at the simpsons. i mean you said family guy was original, but they steal ideas from the simpsons. really they do. south park is better then f guy...
LivelyLorikeet Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Wow, I can't believe someone actually agrees with me about the "Family Guy/Simpsons" thing; perhaps I was just born too late to appreciate The Simpsons, but I don't think it's funny at all. I greatly prefer Family Guy--Stewie rocks!

I liked the original Scooby-Doo series, but Scooby has been done to death (I wish that was literal); when is he going to go away? I also agree with your asessment of Spongebob. The success of that show baffles me; it's not funny, or charming, or interesting.

I haven't seen much of Catdog, Foster's, Dora, the Fairly Oddparents, or the Dalmations series, but I totally agree with you about the Powerpuff girls; when is this show going to put back on the air? It's probably the best thing that ever happened to Cartoon Network.
    rustyshackleford01 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I agree with everything you said except the part about the simpsons, but the only reson I still watch it is because its so much of a tradition on sundays to watch it, I can't walk away. It's kida like SNL and how it's not funny anymore, but it is still a staple of my Saturday nights.
RetroToon Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Something I found interesting about the whole Spongebob thing is that there was a newer episode called "The Krusty Sponge" where Mr. Krabs turned the Krusty Krab into a Spongebob themed restaurant with Sponge Patties and drinks and stuff, and I felt that it very much reflected the way the show is in our lives where we keep seeing him no matter where we go. Maybe the creators wanted to point that out a bit.
shiroihikari Posted 5 years 4 months ago
Well, I agree with you 100% on Scooby-Doo. I've always hated that show.

I liked Spongebob at one point in time, but the show just isn't funny anymore and hasn't been for a long time. Enough already.

Anyway, even though I disagree with you on a couple of points (I hate Family Guy with a passion), I still found this article pretty entertaining. So, thumbs up.
vintagefantasy Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I can't help it I love classic disney and classic hanna barbera. Yes, they have been over played but I still love anyway.
RetroToon Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I totally agree with you on Scooby-Doo. That was once a good classic but Warner Bros. just populated the heck out of it! Now I'd much rather watch The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, or ANY other Hanna-Barbera cartoon than this!

I'd also watch Lilo & Stitch over Winnie the Pooh, but that's more to do with the fact that I grew out of the more babyish cartoons.

Even though Craig McCracken made both The Powerpuff Girls defiently whoops Foster's and their first cartoons are almost always better than their second, like Joe Murray with Camp Lazlo for example.

Fairly Oddparents and Dexter's Lab are kinda tied for me. I liked Cosmo & Wanda and the fact that they could do just about anything on the show but Dexter is just better.

I actually was a fan of Spongebob, and kind of still am, but I do think that Nick wrecked an otherwise decent show by selling out on it so much. I think what made it original more than just the square shape is that it was underwater and that he works in the fast food business. How many other cartoons have we seen nowadays that take place in the ocean? And I know he's supposed to be that annoying neighbor type of character to bug Squidward all the time but it probably works a little too well if people are annoyed by it for real.

The Simpsons have been on a really long time but I still love them a lot. They were a big part of the 90's growing up and a part of my childhood and when the Simpsons Movie came it was just something I had to see! The show had always been good, not that great now but still better than most stuff on TV, and had so many memorable moments and characters. But the time really is drawing near for it to come to a close.

I'm surprised you said nothing about Pok'emon in here, cause it's been on almost as much as Simpsons with as much merchandising as Spongebob.

HarryReems Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I too, hate Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.
That show is terrible. It's terrible.
abrindlek Posted 5 years 4 months ago
They should have really stopped after "The New Scooby Movies." Come to think about, that's where HB could have started the Scooby series too.
    mlw1984 Posted 5 years 4 months ago
I never liked Scooby Doo to begin with. I mean, he still makes new series to this day! It's annoying. The animation isn't all that good and the stories are repetitive. To this day, Scooby Doo airs 9 times a day on CN (at least in the Houston/Galveston area). My uncle made me watch this show when I was a kid.

The Simpsons had their hey day. It's time to cancel it already. I liked it back then, but all good things must come to an end.

Dora's a little kid show, so I don't really care about that one.
