Not Retro?

Not all recent things are bad. Here's what I mean.

This is officially my 25th Retrojunk article. In honor of that, I've got a special topic for you. No, I'm not gonna recap my past articles again. This article is sort of my response to Spongerocks' article on his opinion on the "TV Sucks Now" articles. I am aware that we get tons of articles like that on this site, and to be honest, I'm not really sick of it. I agree mostly with what these people are saying. Toon Disney was made to be a retro-type station, but now that JETIX has taken up about 60% of the network, it really shouldn't be worthy of the name: "Toon Disney". Cartoon Network, I miss the good times, but since they canceled "The Powerpuff Girls" and all the other great Cartoon Cartoons and replaced them with all these crappy shows and live action shows, it's just not worth it. Nickelodeon I don't really care about anymore. I stopped watching it about the time "CatDog" got canceled and "Spongebob" got so popular.

One thing I am really sick of is the way people are treating the people who make those articles. I don't know how to describe these people, but I find it to be unacceptable. This is a "retro" website, which means that people should be talking about things they loved from the past. But every time someone makes a talk about something like how they don't like TV these days, they always get the same damn responses! It's not just here, but all over the Internet, people always respond like this:
"Shut the f**k up!
Quit your whining!
Things change all the time!
Live with it!"

That's what I'm sick of hearing! Shouldn't we have a right to express our nostalgia?

Something else that kinda disturbs me are the time frames people have. There were a few articles I've witnessed that got sent to the back page because a lot of people thought they weren't retro enough. A good example is another article by Spongerocks that talked about the show, "Ed, Edd n Eddy". To me, anything from the 90's or earlier is retro. That show came out in early 1999, and it's canceled now, so it's retro in my book.

Most people say that everythng from the late 90's on sucked. Not everything recent is bad. I'm gonna prove it to you. I'm going to show you some of the things we've had in the world of entertainment in the past 10 years that were actually really good. I'm not gonna list any tragic events that happened in that period like Chris Farley's death, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, or the Wild Fires; these are all positive moments in the world of entertainment.

Movies

Star Wars: Special Edition
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Star Wars, George Lucas decided to digitally remaster the Star Wars Trilogy with brand new footage, new sounds, deleted scenes and new special effects that he couldn't afford to make back in the days. Fans were blown away to see these movies back on the big screen and to see all the new stuff. When I first heard about this, I thought I was going to be seeing Star Wars - Episodes 7, 8 and 9, but no, just updates of 4, 5 and 6. But this was a good way to get me worked up for Episodes 1, 2 and 3, which came out a few years later (all of which were released 3 years apart). Lucas still amazes people with the Star Wars movies, but to be honest, I really don't think there is going to be another Star Wars Trilogy. This collection of movies should be left alone.

Men in Black
Sci-fi movies are usually shocking, gross, or even boring, but this movie proved that sci-fi had it's comedic moments too. Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith star in this sci-fi parody with a good blend of action and comedy mixed together. If they could do that with Ghostbusters, I don't see why they can't do it again. It sucks that we had to wait another 5 years for a sequel, but it was worth it.

Titanic
This 3-hour academy-award-winning movie was such a huge hit. A retelling of a famous story about an unsinkable ship that actually did sink (they didn't think about icebergs), and lots of lives lost. There are numerous things that made this movie so good: Leonardo Decaprio's acting, James Horner's composing, and of course, Celine Dion's hit song.

The Matrix
This 1999 action thriller turned out to be a favorite to many teenagers since the time of its released. So much action and special effects that no one would believe. This movie has been parodied numerous times since it's released, for it's that freeze in the air effect that makes people want to see it.

The Sixth Sense
Not only is "The Sixth Sense" one of the greatest horror films ever made, but it's also one of the best movies of all time. A movie about a kid who has another sense: he can see the dead. One of the greatest movie quotes of all time is included in this movie as well, the ever-so-popular "I see dead people."

Shrek
If you thought fairy tales were just the same old boring story over and over again, "Shrek" proved that there was a humorous side to it. This award winning 2001 animated movie led to a sequel in 2004, which, according to reviews I've heard, was actually better than the original. The third movie, 2007's "Shrek the Third", is thought to be the best Shrek movie yet. It's amazing that these movies keep gradually getting better. I guarantee you that there's going to be another "Shrek" movie.

Harry Potter
Based off of J.K. Rowling's hit book series, the Harry Potter movies turned out to be an awesome series of movies for the new millenium. Each movie seems to evolve in some way. As the kids grow older, the stories get darker. There are a total of seven books, and there will be no more (I'm sure you all know how the last one ends since the whole world is revealing the ending!). We should hope for the upcoming last two movies to be incredible.

Spider-Man
In 2002, Spider-Man's first live-action movie turned out to be a huge hit. The funny thing is that all the other Marvel Superhero movies flopped, but not the Spider-Man movies. This is mostly because Spider-Man is a more recognizable character; in fact, I don't know a single person who doesn't like Spider-Man! The 2004 sequel, like the sequel to "Shrek", turned out to be better than the original, and for some reason, everyone I've heard rant about that movie could not stop saying "Doc Oc". The 2007 third installment turned out to be incredible. A lot of people think there shouldn't be another Spider-Man movie, even though there is already a fourth one in the works.

Lilo & Stitch
This 2002 Disney Animated Classic was loved by a lot but hated by some people who hated Disney's downfall period. It's an original story about a Hawaiian girl who loves Elvis encounters an experiment from another planet who she thinks is a dog and names it Stitch. Stitch turned out to be a very beloved Disney character, and today, he ranks up as one of the most beloved characters along with Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh.

Finding Nemo
This work of Disney and Pixar's turned out to be one of the highest-grossing animated films ever made. It's very enjoyable with a lot of lovable characters and amazing computer animation.

Pirates of the Carribean
Here's a film of Disney's that revealed a different side of the company. Based off of the classic attraction in the Disney theme parks, the "Pirates of the Carribean" movies blew people away. Released in 2003, this became Disney's very first movie to receive a PG-13 rating! This trilogy of movies is well-written and perfectly casted.

School of Rock
Did you ever think that 5th grade kids would become rock n roll stars? Well, thanks to Jack Black, it happened! Accept no substitutes, because the "School of Rock" is a fitting movie to all rock fans and comedy fans.

Napoleon Dynamite
This 2004 movie may seem like a simple movie, but it surprisingly turned out to be one of the greatest comedies of all time. This is the movie that launched John Heider's career, and I consider it to be the movie that time threw up on. Even if you're not a big fan of comedies, this is a must see movie!

The Incredibles
So much effort was put into this movie. Due to amazing reviews, I was tempted to see "The Incredibles" theatrically, and it is indeed incredible! All the action that goes on in this movie will blow you away, and clocking in at 121 minutes, it's one of the longest animated films of all time!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
While Johnny Depp had it strong for a while, he was brought in to play Willy Wonka in this Tim Burton revision of Roald Dahl's popular novel. A lot of people find this movie to be way better than the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", because this one follows the book while the original (which Dahl hated) didn't. To me, this is a great movie, but it felt rather unnecessary.

Happy Feet
I'm not a huge fan of CG, and I'm not big on all the different penguin movies that were coming out recently, but this is a movie that's worth checking out.

Ratatouille
Disney and Pixar does it again. I haven't seen this movie yet, but I heard it got amazing reviews. If you haven't seen this movie yet, then check it out just to see what all the fuss is all about.

Across the Universe
This recent movie is basically a musical that consists of songs all written by the Beatles. This is a must see for all hard core Beatles fans! Now, after seeing this movie, do you think they'll make something like that for other bands? Most likely not, because there really aren't any other bands out there that hold as many memorable songs as the Beatles did. Oh, those Beatles have done so much for us these past 45 years!

Video Games

Star Fox 64
Many gamers claim this flight simulation game to be one of the best games ever on the Nintendo 64. Flight simulation games filled with all sorts of action, always fun. But to me, the best part of this game is the comical dialogue.

Pokemon
This 1998 Game Boy game launched a new series of games and a whole new fad that kids got into. A game where you can capture and train hundreds of different monsters and gain so much experience and knowledge. With Pokemon, how can you go wrong?

Spyro the Dragon
This small purple dragon made his way onto the Sony Playstation in 1998. He's a cool guy, the games are pretty fun and challenging to play (even though each one sucks harder and harder). And you've gotta love that epic music that plays in these games!

Mario Party
In 1999, this game was released and started a series of these awesome party games. Yeah, having the Mario characters go around a board game, collecting coins, collecting stars, and playing a bunch of mini games. What more can you ask for? The "Mario Party" games are definately some of the best games to play with a bunch of people!

Super Smash Bros.
Here's another series of games that became a smash hit. A fighting game where you can play as some of Nintendo's most popular characters. The first game was amazing for it's time. The second game (Melee) was even more mind-blowing than the first. The upcoming third game (Brawl) I guarantee you is going to be incredible!

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
The legendary Tony Hawk as well as other professional skateboarders get their own video game from Neversoft in 1999. How cool is it to ride around on a skateboard performing wild stunts while listening to your favorite mainstream rock songs? This also started a series of games, and each one introduced a new feature, plus new skaters.

Dance Dance Revolution
You think kids need to exercise more instead of playing video games? Well, this game will give them quite a workout! Let me tell you, I've always worn myself out playing the "DDR" games! While this seems to be a popular series, these games are tough. You try dancing to the beat in the right place at the right time by trying to follow two arrows at the same time!

Paper Mario
When I first heard about "Paper Mario", I thought it was going to be a combination of Mario and Paperboy, but no. Paper Mario is an RPG game where everyone is flat as paper. Each Paper Mario game is fun to play and offers plenty of laughs. Definately a reccomendation to Mario fans.

Kingdom Hearts
Squaresoft may have had it big with the "Final Fantasy" games, but "Kingdom Hearts" opened a door for a new audience. I wonder how many video game lovers have always dreamed of playing an RPG game with their favorite Disney characters. These games are dark too. "Kingdom Hearts II" showed us a bunch of other cool stuff from other Disney films that the first one didn't cover. Will we expect a "Kingdom Hearts III" in the near future?

Halo
"Halo" is by all means the X-Box's most popular series. Not being a hardcore fan, I'll attempt to talk about it at the best of my knowledge. From what I understand, there are these things from another galaxy destroying the earth, and this team known as the Elites are trying to get rid of them by collecting these ring-like weapons known as halos. Of course, I could be wrong. I don't have an X-Box, so I can't really say much about the "Halo" series.

Guitar Hero
This brand new game series has become so popular that there is already a third game out, and it hasn't even been a year since the first one came out! For the first time ever, players get to shred some guitar licks to their favorite rock songs in a video game! To this very day, "Sweet Child O' Mine" still stands as the most popular song in the series.

TV

The Angry Beavers
One of Nickelodeon's better Nicktoons. This is a show about two beaver brothers who just drive each other crazy. The younger one, Dagget, seems to get more laughs, especially at all the things he does to prove he's better than his older brother, Norbert. This show deserved to have a longer run, not Spongebob!

101 Dalmatians: The Series
Probably one of the most underrated cartoons ever made. I've said this in numerous articles of mine already, but this 1997 Disney animated series should have gotten more respect than it got. If you want a fun cartoon, then how can you go wrong with having tons of fun with these adorable dalmatians? If you'd like to know more about this show, then check out the article I wrote on it a while back.

South Park
"South Park" went beyond the limits for TV shows and introduced a new type of comedy. It's one of the gorriest cartoons ever made, and it's also the first animated series I head of to recieve a mature rating (regardless, kids still watched it). This show, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, is a Comedy Central classic, and has introduced a bunch of new famous catchphrases like "I'm not fat, I'm big-boned!", "Respect my authority!", and of course, "Oh my God, they killed Kenny!" Yeah, Kenny was a pretty famous character for dying in every single episode, but that stopped happening later on in the series. Really, what this show is all about is the fat kid himself, the new age Archie Bunker, Eric Cartman.

Pokemon
Though it was introduced in Japan some time earlier, when we Americans got this anime show in 1998, kids have been watching it religiously. This series is still pretty cool to watch, but a lot of Pokemon fans have stopped watching it when certain seasons began. It's a corny show, but it's forgivable.

The Powerpuff Girls
You can be a fan or a hater all you want, but the Powerpuff Girls are nothing less than awesome! There's nothing I like to see more than Kindergarten girls beating the crap out of people, and this opens a door to some lovable and memorable scenes. Some of the show's aspects remind me a little of the Care Bears; fun times.

Ed, Edd n Eddy
A plain and simple show, but it's surprisingly enjoyable. If it weren't for the character, Ed, this creation of Danny Antanoucci would be just flat out boring. Due to the amount of comedy he offers, Ed has become the most lovable character on "Ed, Edd n Eddy", which makes this show worthy of viewing.

Family Guy
"Family Guy" showed that cartoons can still be as funny as today's sit-coms. There are tons of people who love this show, as it shows a lot of comedy that nobody has ever expected from anything else. The only people who hate this show are pervert haters who don't accept a little sex now and then. Every time you watch "Family Guy", you'll always find something new to laugh at. Every episode takes in a fresh idea always giving you something new to laugh at, but the fresher it is, the funnier it is.

Whose Line Is It Anyway?
A show where four actors play improv games and make idiots out of themselves. It's comic gold!

Digimon
Digimon is not a rip-off on Pokemon! In fact, I think it's even better than Pokemon! It's a very memorable series with lovable characters and stories that leave a happy feeling in your heart. Some of it reminds me of the Care Bears in some ways, except not as childish.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force
This is a pretty memorable show for adults. I'm not really sure what it's about, but I don't care, as long as it makes me laugh. Of the three characters of this show, Meatwad seems to be the most memorable character, while Frylock and Master Shake just seem to be used as extras.

Beat the Geeks
A short-lived quiz show that played on Comedy Central in 2001 and 2002. In this game, contestants go for a chance to win valuable prizes by challenging the masterminds of pop culture, a.k.a. "The Geeks". The three main geeks are the Movie Geek, the Music Geek and the TV Geek, and there have been guest geeks of media such as Star Wars, Michael Jackson, Simpsons, Hip Hop, Horror, Playboy, Comic Books, South Park, Friends, Star Trek, James Bond, Wrestling, Kiss, Beatles, Planet of the Apes and Harry Potter. I'm sure everybody's a geek at something. Who are you the geek of?

American Idol
This famous annual limited series is where people sing in front of crowds in hopes to win their own music career. If you're into reality shows, then this is a show for you. However, if you dispise Simon Cowell, then stay away from it.

Codename: Kids Next Door
This is an awesome action cartoon. In my opinion, it's the last good series that Cartoon Network ever made. It's cool and funny at the same time. Codename: Kids Next Door offers the same charm of TMNT in some ways.

Lilo & Stitch: The Series
All I can say is that if you loved the movie, you'll love this show.

Mythbusters
Two guys go out of their ways on this Discovery Channel series to try to solve mysterious myths that people have been trying to solve for ages. They solved tons of myths over the years. The only myth I don't think they'll ever be able to solve is if the Lochness Monster exists.

Robot Chicken
This show is insanely bad, but awesome. This 15-minute stop-motion animated show is famous for poking fun at pop culture and doing it in a very violent and mature way. If you're a fan of "Family Guy", "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" or "Space Ghost Coast to Coast", then you'll love this show.

Cash Cab
Let's take a cab ride to Rockafeller Center...SURPRISE! You're in the Cash Cab! Ben Bailey hosts this game show that takes place in his taxi. Anyone who comes into his cab will be asked general knowledge questions on the way to their destination and win money on the way. Sound fun?

Don't Forget the Lyrics
Former "Whose Line" performer, Wayne Brady, hosts this game show. Contestants on this show go for one million dollars by singing ten of the biggest hits songs, but only if they can give the correct lyrics. Few people know about this show, but it's still an exciting show, and I'm willing to be on it!

Music

Radiohead
While Radiohead already blew the world away in 1993, with their hit song, "Creep", their third album, 1997's "OK Computer", really defined their true sound. Radiohead has a sound that is very unique from most bands of the 90's and today. If you take this album and listen to "Paranoid Android", "Karma Police" and "No Surprises", you'll see what I mean.

Santana
This was very amazing. Carlos Santana launched his career in 1969 with his debut album and hit songs like "Evil Ways", and "Black Magic Woman" and "Oye Como Va" would come out the next year. Thirty years later, he would release "Supernatural", with the huge hit song, "Smooth". That song was such a huge hit, it got tons of radio play, and even high school kids were getting into it, which is unusual for an artist who's been around for over 30 years. Stick it to the man!

Bruce Springsteen
Okay, Springsteen has been a mega superstar in rock & roll for quite a long time. He made tons of timeless albums in the 70's and 80's, but in the 90's, he seemed to lack success. In 2002, he managed to make a huge comeback with his album, "The Rising". He's still going pretty strong today as well. Since I'm such a huge Springsteen fan, he has my support.

Green Day
In 2004, Green Day's "American Idiot" album became a huge hit, and I actually remember hearing a news report saying that the album was a masterpiece and was going down in history as one of the greatest rock albums ever made. Although, it did win a grammy for best rock album, ever since the summer of 2005, it seemed like the whole world was hating Green Day. I always wondered why. Eventually, I found out that it was because lead singer, Billy Joe Armstrong started wearing eyeliner. I learned to accept these guys, because sound is often more important than looks.

Gorillaz
This virtual hip hop band has been an interest to me since their debut album in 2001. The lead singer of this group happens to be Damon Albarn (lead singer of Blur). This is actually a very unique band, and they had a lot of quite interesting songs. When I first head the song, "Clint Eastwood", I thought at first that there is no way they'd be able to top that; 2005's "Demon Days" proved me wrong, since "Feel Good Inc." became an outstanding radio hit. It sucks that there won't be any more Gorillaz albums...or will there be?

Weezer
Weezer had two masterpiece albums in the mid 90's, but after their hiatus, they made a big comeback offering a few strong hits. Their fifth album, 2005's "Make Believe" turned out to be actually the best album they did in a long time. I have a lot of favorite Weezer songs, and I can only hope that they will continue.

Tally Hall
There's a new band in town! These guys introduced themselves to the world in early 2005, when they released their music video to their song, "Bannanna Man", on Albino Black Sheep. It won't be until later that year when they release their debut album, and that album is quite a mind-blower! I hope their next album will be as good as that one!

Other Media

Yu-Gi-Oh!
I don't know much about this game, but throughout the 2000's, a lot of kids have been getting into this. It's a popular trading card game and is also a Japanese cartoon. It's similar to Pokemon only more intense.

Homestar Runner
Homestar Runner is a popular web site created by Matt and Mike Chapman. There's really no plot to it at all, but it gives plenty of laughs regardless. Everything on this site is very original and well-made, and so many fans could not resist Homestar's stupidity, Strong Bad's imagination, the Cheat's many skills, the surprise appearances of Homsar, and the character who's name says it all, TROGDOR!!!

iTunes
Downloading music had become popular in the 2000's. Many hooligans have been using programs to download music for free, but that turned out to be illegal. Thankfully, iTunes came around. This is a special online music library where people can download songs for a dollar each. You won't find everything on iTunes, but it is a nice thing to have.

MySpace
A new site for people to come on, chat with their friends, and make new friends. MySpace has become quite popular since 2004, and it's still popular today, and still, millions of people use it. This is really a great place to communicate with people and find others with the same interests as you.

YouTube
This is another popular site where a lot of people visit. It's mainly made for people to show videos they've made as well as other stuff. A lot of things get removed from YouTube due to violation and copywright infringement, and that's the only thing that sucks about it, but other than that, it's great.

The Angry Video Game Nerd
Since he began his career in the spring of 2006, the Angry Video Game Nerd has changed the way people have reviewed video games that they hate. He's also done a lot of other stuff like movie reviews and other video series' on YouTube and Cinnemassacre, but reviewing bad video games is his top priority. He's played some of the worst games ever made, and he has such a filthy mouth that he actually makes up his own words. Ever since he was introduced, people all over the world have been immitating him and making their own game reviews. And if I hear one more person accuse me of ripping off this guy (even though there are already tons of people who do), I'm going to start taking some serious action!

Phew! Man! That was a lot of stuff I talked about! I'm just glad I'm finally finnished! Well, that's a bunch of stuff we got in the past 10 years that aren't too bad. I know most of it is not retro, but that's beside the point; the point is that I'm just showing you that not everything we have in modern times sucks; there are still lots of good things out there. I know there's a lot of stuff I left out, but I didn't want to make this article too long. Anyways, good night, everybody!

great article! i always felt sad that modern days wasn't as good as the previous decades. but there were some good things to like in this decade. let's hope the next decades that will come might fix the way that modern days has.

I totally agree with almost everything here! I'm not a huge fan of everything you listed like, Accross the Universe or South Park but I always give credit where credit's due. Also, I always thought Ed, Edd, and Eddie was retro. Seriously, 1999 was over 10 years ago. I'm a little younger so Homestar Runner is actually nostalgic for me. AWESOME ARTICLE DUDE!
    Trueblue94 Posted 3 years 11 months ago
Great article. It's true, not everything in today's world is crap. If you ask me, I think every generation has its goods and bads. But I'd have to agree with what maddybelo said about today's cartoons. They're not giving them a lot of effort at all... But anyway... Thumbs up! :)

i agree with everything except 2 i love ed,edd and eddy but ed is not the only god person on the show and i never was into ddr and games like it
    Stickykeys09 Posted 4 years 10 months ago
Homestar Runner is like a good play on 'Retroness' in general. Most of the humor is 80's-90's pop culture.
    luckyfanpup101 Posted 4 years 11 months ago
Choker, how could you hate Titanic? That's the best film ever made. If it wasn't, then why would it gross over one billion dollars at the box office? Anyway, I loved this article. I agree with you wholeheartedly, Lucky.
    futuramafan95 Posted 5 years 1 month ago
i didn't like amerian idiot.green day sold out.i prefer the first 6 albums
    ChokerZ99 Posted 5 years 3 months ago
I can't believe you put Titanic in there. Everything else is fine. I can except some of those others as just your opinion, such as DDR, although reluctantly. But no, not Titanic.
    Oh well. Nice article.

    Nostalgia rules all though.
dalmatianlover Posted 5 years 3 months ago
I gotta reply to the above comment.

There are also tons of people who hate Family Guy because of the fact that it ripped off a lot of jokes that were used on The Simpsons. You're probably one of those who does so due to the fact that you've got Homer Simpson as your avatar. I give the show a chance because first of all, I'm not a Simpsons fan, and second of all, I don't necessarily belive that McFarlane was intending to rip off Groening all the time.

    So, yeah, mellow out, everyone.
    BAM1981 Posted 5 years 3 months ago
"The only people who hate this show are pervert haters who don't accept a little sex now and then."

Yep, I guess because I don't like Family Guy I'm just an old fart who hates sex jokes. Wrong! Defending a show, and talking about why you like something is fine. It's not right to paint with such broad strokes by claiming that everyone who disagrees with you is "square." I love a good sex joke. What I don't like is a plot with so many holes that it has to be filled in (by lazy writers) with random junk, and go nowhere cut-away scenes.

I would be just as wrong if I said something like "Family Guy fans are all a bunch of adolescent douche bags."

There are plenty of people who don't like family guy. It doesn't make us wrong. The fact that you do like it doesn't make you wrong/right, either.

Honestly, the only person I saw that got out of line was COOLHAND. A sarcastic, unprovoked tirade if I ever saw one.
gustogummi Posted 5 years 5 months ago
I do agree with what both of you are saying, but I don't think MLW1984 was insulting anyone, Saradomin. If he told COOLHAND to shut the fuck up or called him names, then that's an insult.
gustogummi Posted 5 years 5 months ago
This is a site for nostaglia. It's just that most of the stuff on written on this article don't really give me the warm fuzzies or anything like that.

I do agree that the cartoons suck now theory isn't new. In fact, I have a cousin who hates every cartoon made after 1989. My grandfather hates most cartoons made after 1960.
    mlw1984 Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Did I say anything bad about either decade...NO. Read my post again. There is nothing wrong with nostalgia at all. Saradomin, you misread my original post. All I'm saying is that different generations like to bash each other's cartoons and the saying "cartoons suck now" isn't new, no, not at all. In fact, they've probably been saying it since the 1960's. I love the 1980's and 1990's as much as anyone on this site, but eventually whether we like it or not, people will be nostaglic for the 2000's and all of the things you despise.

And I didn't say ALL modern cartoons are good, because not all of them are. I said I'm opened to all of the generation's cartoons, not just the ones from the past.

I thought this was supposed to be a site for nostaglia, not "I hate everything today!".

    I'm out.
Saradomin Posted 5 years 5 months ago
I think this whole cartoon discussion has been blown out of proportion. Mlw1984 and especially you Hiro, have been going around to everything that speaks of cartoons and 80s/90s nostalgia and insulting the person that started th rant. I think it's best if we just let the person say what he wants. You may not agree with the viewer's ideas, but I'm not arguing with these people every chance I get.

Hiro Posted 5 years 5 months ago
MLW1984, THANK YOU! I agree with you fully. I'm sick of people bashing today's cartoons. There are plenties of great cartoons today. To be honest, I don't miss those 70s/80s cartoons that much. They were horrible when they first came out and they haven't gotten any better with time. I'm also sick of people bashing Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Toon Disney. You all just outgrew the channels and they aren't catering to nostaglia buffs, why don't people get this? Those channels are for KIDS! If people can't deal with the fact networks have to change, then why bother paying for cable?
    mlw1984 Posted 5 years 5 months ago
^That's not really good reason for me. You probably didn't watch nothing more than one episode of each show. I hate it when people judge modern animation just because it's different from what we grew up with. Our parents and grandparents probably thought our cartoons were crap and prefered the ones from their childhoods. I always hated when people bash stuff just because it's not from their generation. It annoyed me to no end when my uncle bashed the cartoons from the 1980's and 1990's all the time and saying that they were "crap" compared to the stuff from the 1970's and before. So people bashing modern animation isn't a new thing.

I'm opened to each decade's cartoons, 1930's-1950's (Golden Age Cartoons), TV Era (1960's-mid 1980's) and the Modern Era(late 1980's-present). I actually watch more than one episode of a cartoon before I say it sucks. There are cartoons today that I don't like (Stargate Infinity, The Proud Family, Buzz on Maggie, Super Duper Sumos, The X's, Squirrel Boy etc) but there are cartoons from the past that I don't like either (Filmation's Ghostbusters, Challenge of the Go-Bots, Scooby-Doo (and any of it's spin-offs, old or new), Quack Pack etc). I'm not saying that the old cartoons are bad, because they aren't, I'm just saying that there's some good stuff out there now too. You would just have to dig through the junk to find the treasures.

True, some shows today have bad animation, but some shows from the past have bad animation too (watch any cartoon from the 1970's).

So you see, not all modern cartoons suck. Just open your mind and actually watch the shows before you say they suck.
COOLHAND Posted 5 years 5 months ago
ok mlw1984 i guess the reason that cartoons suck now isnt apparentto you. thats ok because i can enlighten you to that which is plainly placed in front of your face. the reason that cartoons are beyond sucking major chode is that every show has bad voice talents, thick black lines around the 2d characters, unimaginative character acting, and boring plot. But i can see why you would like cartoons from today.

(that last sentence was sarcasm by the way)

    Awesome article!
I do agree with the stuff mentioned here, I mean there are some stuff today that are cool. I love youtube and the angry nintendo rocks, hes so funny haha. I love guitar hero, sweet child O mine is also one of my favorite songs :]

Angry video game nerd is hiliarious. The only show that I know on youtube dats probably as good as his wen it comes to game reviewing is The Irategamer if you havent seen his material yet but aye coo article though
jujubeeme Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Although I agree with most of your article, it was not necessary. Lots of things SUCK and lots of things DON'T SUCK. It's a waste of time to make a list of each.
P.S. You forgot Lord of the Rings! (among many, many others)
P.P.S. To the guy who complained about everything in this article being "mainstream", if you were to bring in everything NON-mainstream there would be chaos because the non-mainstream world is fucking huge.
RetroToon Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Lilo & Stitch: The Series took on kind of a Pok'emon theme with all the other experiments, but it was the only thing I watched on Disney Channel since I always liked the ones based on the features. But yeah, the TV shows (or those cheap sequels for that matter) can't compare at all to the actual films.
oldnickfan Posted 5 years 5 months ago
I agreed with all of it except for lilo & stitch the series because it got totally different from the movie, which was wonderful. I suggest you see Ratatoulie because it's a cute movie. If vh1 makes a series for this decade, the material in this article would definitely be in it. The cream of the crop. thumbs up!

I didn't read the article as it's WAY off topic and WAY too long.

So you're trying to prove that newer media can still stand on its on two feet?

I would have to say that Star Wars, Starfox, Weezer, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory in their re-hashed forms do not illustrate your point.

Great article! Picking up some good points :)
I'd have to say that I do like the past TV shows (throughout the 90's) much more than the ones out nowadays. I just don't believe that they are putting in as much effort as they used to. A lot of the cartoons these days are really cheaply animated and the story lines are boring and very repetetive. There's just no good quality shows that I have seen so far. I wish I could go back to the past and watch all the awesome shows that used to be. I'd truly appreciate it now. I really wish they could put repeats on some of the shows....I miss the old days
But enough said about that - a great article

Loved your article man, I was born 1991 and reading all these articles about how the past decades were way better then today or the one I was born in kind've made me feel my era was in a way inferior to theirs, but after reading this I realized there was as much great things in my lifetime as there was in all of theirs and that kind've made me feel happy and proud to be born in the 90s. Thank you
gustogummi Posted 5 years 5 months ago
I agree with MLW1984. Some people never explain why something sucks. They will just say it's crap without explaining why it's crap.

    Example

    Joe: Modern cartoons are crap.
Dan: Why are modern cartoons crap?
Joe: Because they are. The ones from the past are better.
Dan: That's not a good reason why.
Joe: You want to get your ass kicked?

That's what pisses me off too.
    StarSprinkles84 Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Good job dalmatianlover :) This was in deed, a breath of fresh air compared to other articles that always dis how the modern times suck, when really, some things in the present rock and they will be a miss as well when they are past their prime.
    mlw1984 Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Coolhand, care to explain why this stuff is crap? One thing that pisses me off is when someone says something sucks and they provide no reason why such and such sucks.
krantzbucks Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Please don't recommend things (Ratatouille) you have not seen. How many times have you read rave reviews of something only to discover it is nothing special or you don't actually like it?
RetroToon Posted 5 years 5 months ago
I know. You're right, life is good no matter how much things change. Even if the 90's seemed better I do appreciate some of the things we have today and adjusted to it like other people. Like the debate over cartoons for instance: there's always going to be some bad ones out there but I'm very open minded and if a show speaks to me I start to like it for what it is, which is why I've grown up liking many different cartoons over the years.
Benjanime Posted 5 years 5 months ago
lol yes there's still some stuff nowadays people can enjoy. but please, do NOT mention yugioh again. ugh. that show is in the same league as spongebob
Frightwolf Posted 5 years 5 months ago
RetroToon, you really need to look around you if you think things aren't that good anymore. I used to never be enamored with the time I was living in until years after the fact. Then I'd go, "Damn, I had a lot of fun at that point!" I'm already wanting to go back just two years ago for numerous reasons (less work, for example).

Times are always good; it just takes time to appreciate what you have. I love reminiscing about any old times and I always would take the opportunity to go back and relive a lot of moments of my life, but I know how good I have it right now, even during the downtimes.
Spencer Posted 5 years 5 months ago
wow, big article, nice job! Star Fox 64 rocks to this day.
RetroToon Posted 5 years 5 months ago
To answer your question COOLHAND: it's to at least try and find SOME good things in today's world, which is pretty hard when things truely aren't that good anymore. I agree with him on a number of these things such as Spider-Man, Shrek, Finding Nemo and stuff.
COOLHAND Posted 5 years 5 months ago
yeah alot of that stuff is crap, plus no offense but you had so much stuff in your article it got boring real fast. you just said something like "this is pretty new and not that bad." honestly i need to know why it is good, and since you did not attempt to do that (most notably on Happy Feet) I give this article a thumbs down due to poor construction.

just a side note: while there are some retro things in there...very few. why are you doing an article about new things on a site called *RETRO*junk?

nintendonerd Posted 5 years 5 months ago
oh and these are good tv shows to(I know u put i missed alot of things)but these are cool cartoons. Chowder is great(cartoon network)and Phineas and Ferb is cool well it has not come out but i saw the sneak peek and it is awsome(disney channel) Mighty B its about a girl scout but i also saw the sneak peek and it is cool(Nick)
nintendonerd Posted 5 years 5 months ago
For me I hate nemo, lilo and stich and the incridebles but its agood thing you wrote this article cause what if these were made in 93 or 84 they would have been the coolest movies ever
davidyck Posted 5 years 5 months ago
wow! good article! i agree with you completley that things can still be good nowadays. some pretty cool stuff mentioned here.
    mlw1984 Posted 5 years 5 months ago
I forgot to say some things: I personally hate the TV sucks now articles too. Most of them use very little detail and all they do is go on a bash rampage. While I love the old school cartoons and TV shows, there are great modern cartoons and shows today too.

I do agree with most of your choices for TV and movies. I love Family Guy, South Park and Futurama. I personally don't care for American Idol or any reality shows for that matter. I would of have added Avatar the Last Air Bender on that list, but that's just me.

As for music, I wouldn't have put Bruce Springsteen and Carlos Santana (since they are retro artists, despite the fact that they are still putting out music), I would of have put System of a Down or Drowning Pool instead, but since this isn't my list, I can't complain.

I agree with the video games part. Love my N64, PS2/3, Xbox/Xbox 360. I love the Angry Video Game Nerd, I just love how he's bashing these bad games with lots of profanity. YouTube is great for watching music videos and episodes of old TV shows.

So you see, the 2000's (and late 1990's) isn't all that bad. Like what I said, I'm pretty sure the kids of today will be on here, nostaglic for the stuff some people despise, just like we are nostaglic for the stuff our parents probably despise.

    Great article!
Celeste Posted 5 years 5 months ago
You have a great article there, however, there are a few things that I don't really agree with you on.

For example as far as I'm concerned Tim Burton took a perfectly good book called "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and ruined it. It's not the same as the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie that Gene Wilder made famous in the 1970s.

Another example is Ed, Edd N Eddy which is far from being retro as far as this old fart is concerned. If you want retro cartoons you have to go back to the golden ages cartoons, the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s. Now that's retro.

My last example is that every musical artist that you mentioned are not really retro except for Carlos Santana and Bruce Springsteen.

And another thing I have only ever written two "This Sucks" articles in my entire short years on this website and that's was when I experessed my disdain for the new Gobots cartoon and the Rocklords which systematically destroyed any dignity that the Gobots had left.

You can only put up with so many, dare I say, assholes at one time who think that their time's media is better than everyone else's time's media.

When I write a "This Sucks" article I make sure to back up my statements so I don't look crazy and I don't know what I'm talking about. I don't just say "This Sucks" and then don't back up my statements.

My last article entitled "Why Should I Sit Through This?",(http://www.retrojunk.com/details_articles/2248/), created quite an unintentional buzz with some people who thought that I was bashing the whole 2000s generation, which I wasn't, I was just bashing the cartoons in a way that I thought was kind of funny "Ha Ha".

I was trying to make a point that cartoons now are just crap. The now cartoons are all about being abusive and cruel.

I gave my reasons why I didn't like Sponge Bob Square Pants and people ignored everything that I said about it and thought that I was bashing the whole 00s generation.

So excuse me if I sound like Grandpa Simpson but you know what I'd rather watch classic cartoons rather than the now cartoons because it's my thing and it's what I grew up with.
Fangarius Posted 5 years 5 months ago
To Jake 1079, Digimon was so bad due to Fox Kids and censorship going way out of control. Mainly because at an Anime Con I once witnessed the original version, and it was fairly decent for a Pokemon knock-off. Yet, as with the early DBZ shows, apparently censors thought it so violent they literally skewered it with nonsense, making it acceptable for younger viewers.

To Gustogummi, first off WHEN wasn't a Disney TV-Movie tie-in NOT an insult to the films? Basically with the case of 101 Dalmations, Disney execs wanted to cash in with the hype of their live-action films, and thought if they got April Winchell to do Cruella, no one would notice. The only reason they got 'toned' down was once again networks and Disney feared the REAL Cruella would be too frightening for kids. Even though it seemed Disney kept merchandising this particular villain to death.

To Hiro and Frightwolf, you're both right. The dilemma about recalling the Past in general is nostalga value. And as Leela once said about Soylent Cola, as with nostalga, 'it varies from person to person.'

And you're correct, most of our Past we remember fondly wasn't a reflection on its quality, but simply the fact it was the only thing offered as entertainment. Because in all honesty, here's the condundrum of our Reality: we in the Past didn't have the innovations of the Present and the Future, yet, if it wasn't for the Past you wouldn't have the inspiration for these innovations now.

Frightwolf actually demonstrates how this is accurate. Even I recall watching Elroy's classmate watching a portable television on his wrist, and Judy having a mini-disc encyclopedia, whereas now we can store vast amounts on a single chip and take our favourite songs and videos on the go, via iPod, Zune or PSP.

The Internet's become more than just a tool for sharing information as it was in the 90s. You can purchase items, download music, photos, even do animation and videos.

Apologies for the rant, but my point is this. In all honesty, though we nostalga buffs love yesteryear, would we really harken back to those days without the technology? Probably not. I recall it best in an episode of the Twilight Zone, where a man from the 1890s is sent into the 20th Century, discovering he doesn't care for the modern world, while a 19th Century buff longs to go back to the guy's age.

But when the buff gets the chance to go back, he discovers why the 'Good Old Days' weren't exactly so great, ending up escaping back to the 20th Century.

Even in Futurama, when Fry longs for the 20th Century, he still marvels at what the 31st Century has to offer. And I secretly doubt he'd want to give up some of the odd future innovations (yes, I know about Xmas, I said 'some';) just to go back to that time.

Bottom line, Retro Junkies gives us an opportunty to appreciate not just the Past, but a bit of the Present and Future as well. Because in the end, those enjoying the current Present will someday be remniscing fondly about their Past while Future Gens will be claiming their Present is best.

Once again, to DL, great article!
Frightwolf Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Since when is Shrek 3 considering to be the best Shrek? Spider-Man 3 and Shrek 3 were considered to be very, very weak, especially in comparison with their predecessors. Take a look at the RottenTomatoes consensus to see how it is "thought to be."

The problem I have with the argument of, "Past vs. Present," is that a lot of stuff back in the day is only good because of the nostalgic value. In other words, a lot of shows I watched back in the day that I remember fondly weren't actually great shows -- I didn't watch them because they were good; I watched them because they were on. With movies, once again, some I watched all the time as a kid, but now that I watch them again, they haven't held up.

I do have very fond memories of the 90s; it was a great time for me. And there is something about remembering myself playing Genesis games with all my neighbors in my apartment complex that I will always hold dear, maybe even more dear than when I currently play video games.

But the more I think about it, the more I realize that, besides world affairs, my actual life and the sources of entertainment I can look into nowadays is actually very, very good. With movies, we are in an animation renaissance with the surge of 3D movie popularity but, more importantly, the quality of a lot of those movies that have come out (like the contempoary animated masterpiece that is Ratatouille). With video games, I have played some of the best games I've ever played this decade. Final Fantasy X, Twisted Metal Black, Amplitude, Rock Band, Shadow of the Colossus, Halo 3, you name it. And the online experience I've had from Starcraft and XBox Live has been incredible. Comedies this decade have been fun as hell, in particular the 40-Year-Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine, and Superbad. Scorsese won his first Best Director Oscar for his contemporary mob masterpiece.

With technology, this decade has basically taken the awesome things from the 80s and 90s (internet, boomboxes, CD players, cell phones, etc.) and made them a lot sleeker, smaller, and better. The iPod has made it easier for me to hold onto a lot of music without carrying about 20 CDs or a boombox. Cell phones have gotten a lot better and made life a lot easier (internet surfing? Cool!). My internet connection is 100X better than what it was in the 90s, and since I've become internet-dependent, it couldn't be better news for me. Basically, this decade has removed the clunkiness to newer inventions at the end of last millennium and made them far easier to use.

Actually, there is a ton more than this that I can talk about, but it just goes to show that it's all right to be overly nostalgic (I know I am), but people who act like the present is nothing compared to the glory days of the 90s need to take a second look and realize all the great things that are being given to us.

Really, I think I will probably look back fondly of this decade as the decade my childhood ended (my teenage years ended last February when I finally turned 20) on a high note.
Hiro Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Nostaglia is one thing. Bashing modern things and saying that they suck is another thing. The problem with these "TV sucks now" articles is that they can't even explain why TV sucks now other than "Cartoons are gay now compared to the 80s and 90s" and "TV sucks now".

I agree, not everything new is bad, not all old things are great.

For TV, I wouldn't have put American Idol, the 101 Dalmatians cartoon, Cash Cab or Don't Forget the Lyrics. No offense, but I think they aren't that great. I would of had Nip/Tuck, Lost, Heroes, The Shield, The Office, My Name is Earl, Scrubs, It's Always Sunny in Philadephia, CSI, The Colbert Report and The Daily Show instead. For modern cartoons, I would of also had Ben 10, Avatar, Legion of Super Heroes, TMNT 2003 and Invader Zim. Anyone who thinks TV sucks now haven't watched an episode of any of these shows. I agree with the other cartoons and shows.

Everything else, I agree with. I'm sick of people bashing the 2000s and acting like as if the 80s and 90s are flawless as we all know they are not.

    Excellent article.
retrocop Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Good article. I do disagree with a few things that you say are good. Napoleon Dynamite put me to sleep twice. It is in my opinion no way a funny movie. The rest of the list seems correct. None the less, good article.
Spottedfeather Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Great article. Not one single thing in it is anywhere near being retro, but great article.
gustogummi Posted 5 years 5 months ago
I don't agree with most of the stuff on this article. Not all modern stuff suck, but most of the stuff on here is just the overrated mainstream junk.

I don't care about the video games since I don't play anything past 16 bit, no offense. So you did a good job there.

I don't mind the movies section either since I had never seen any of those movies minus Napoleon Dynamite (only because my kid wanted to see it).

As for the TV, I only agree with Futurama and Family Guy. The 101 Dalmatians cartoon was an insult to the movie. American Idol is overrated, too much bad singing and Simon Cowell is a dick. Other modern TV shows I would recommend is Avatar the Last Airbender, King of the Hill, Ben 10, Samurai Jack and Justice League.

For music I don't agree with your choices. I recommend The Aquabats, Mastodon, A Global Threat and Cheap Sex for great recent bands. (yeah, I like non-mainstream music minus a few bands)

Myspace is overrated and I like YouTube, but I killed my account on the 15th of November. Sucks, I know, but hey, I have a busy life.

Not all things modern suck. Sorry that I disagree with many of your choices, but that's how I feel. But this is not my article, so you did a good job.

But, "Across The Universe" is as bad as watching "American Idol" mixed with "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band" and "Hair". "Titanic" is overrated!

Its childish, the jokes are in mature, THe digimon characters act like children, and why the heck does everyone in the world at the end of season 2 have a digimon partner and go off smilling and gigilling at the end, and man that theme song is really repedidtive. Im glad that shows dead and the franchise is extinct hear becasue I hated it to death so much and it was horrible, and if I had to chose between it and care bears. Id go with care bears (I think its that bad).

There are a bunch of things I entirely disagree with in this article (Green Day, Titanic, Myspace) but a lot I agree with (the Angry Video Game Nerd, Angry Beavers, Napoleon Dynamite, all those games, etc). These are all personal opinion differences, though; the point still remains that while not everything is bad nowadays, we still want to rant about how much better it used to be. So yeah, I'm agreeing with you; I want those kinds of articles to stay.
Fangarius Posted 5 years 5 months ago
Great article, DL, yes, there are a few exceptions of greatness out there. Funny you describing Cartman as the new Archie Bunker, because I'm not sure if you knew but back in 2001, I think, Norman Lear started helping Matt and Trey with creating other South Park episodes, and it definitely shows as we now see episodes tackle more issues from political to popular fads.

In fact, SP parodied both the EverQuest and Guitar Hero craze in current episodes.

Another good movie I liked was V for Vendetta because though the trailers kept hyping it as an action film, it suprisingly had a plot with it than your typical 'disgruntled-outcast-takes-aggression-out-on-government-and-society' action/drama films.

The Matrix was definitely an excellent film, I actually liked this one better because of the costumes. Personally, I liked Keanu in the trenchcoat attire than the nehru jacket one he wore in the sequels (which later I discovered wardrobe design used because they feared the trenchcoat thing was too Columbine. Not certain what that was all about, but they used it). But also because it was an original concept: guy discovers the world as he knows it is nothing more than a computer generated illusion.

The problem with the sequels I fear was, the creators sort of attempted condensing everything into two films and for some reason the entire thing left me flat.

Another thing I liked about the Ninties was Doctor Who briefly returning as a TV Movie on Fox. Though you needed taking most of the canonized information with a grain of salt, it was exciting to see The Doctor return to the airwaves after an extended hitaus from 1986.

Even though it would take the BBC almost ten years reviving it, the TVM did bring hope to some Whovians the show was coming back. Though Paul McGann was the shortest living Doctor (next to Chris Ecceleston), the Eighth Doctor's tales did continue through comics, graphic novels and novels.

Funny thing about Aqua Teen Hunger Force, originally it didn't start on Adult Swim as many people thought. The pilot was once aired on MTV's short-lived spin-off of Liquid Television, Animation Sushi I think it was called.

The rumour was Viacom--the people who brought Beavis & Butthead to cable airwaves--considered the pilot too far out. But apparently someone at Williams Street Animation watched the show and offered the creators a 13-episode deal. The rest, they say, was history.

Another gem overlooked which came out at the exact end of the 90s, was Futurama were Matt Groening and David X. Cohen took the future concept and peppered it with The Simpsons style and wit. Basically you have a hapless delivery man named Philip J. Fry, who during a prank pizza delivery, ends up frozen for 1000 years, to wake up on Dec. 31st 2999.

Entering the 31st Century, he meets Leela, Bender and the rest of the Planet Express crew where common 2Oth Century practices like Christmas have been skewered to where Xmas is the most-feared holiday due to a misprogrammed Santa Bot.

It was sad when Fox cancelled the series, but has been revived by Adult Swim, and next year in 2008, the show will return on Comedy Central. Also this week its first new DVD, Bender's Big Score will hit stores on Tuesday.

Once again, DL, kudos on the great article, and as far as I'm concerned you are NOT like Angry VG Nerd. Those are just detractors attempting on finding similarities to your work and his, and they should personally just grow up and enjoy what the articles here are about.

    But hey, that's just me.

there are some new cartoons that are pretty good too!
I babysit a couple of boys, and they watch this show called Dino Squad, I dont know if anyone here has heard of it, but the best part is, even I enjoy watching it. The characters are people, but they transform to dinosaurs to save the world. and of course the boys LOVE the dino cars they drive, I really suggest you check this show out!

Heres some pics I found online to give you an idea...

Why is Napolean Dynamite on this list? That movie is the most god awful travesty, disgrace to mankind the media has ever seen. Not once did I laugh at any of the moments, instead I booed at it. I don't even think I managed to watch it from begining to end because it was so bad.

I haven't been able to log in for a while since the overhaul, but I'm back and I'm giving this one a thumbs-up. It's about time someone did an article like this. I was in the process of doing one myself, but you've done it better than I ever could.

    Thumbs up!

Woo, that's a lot. I would say that yes, a lot of these last-10-years stuff is cool. Hollywood still has a few tricks, and maybe start looking for new ones.
    greatmemories90 Posted 5 years 5 months ago
mmmm...some of this stuff is good...like POTC or Napolean Dynamite and Shrek. And i also LOVE Youtube and iTunes...who doesn't? Yeah, not ALL the new stuff sucks...it's some of the best shows, but when you compare Nickolodean now, to the 90's, you would definately say the 90's was better

Great article! I totally agree that there are PLENTY of great things in recent years!!!
    sidran32 Posted 5 years 5 months ago
I agree with most of this article. I don't agree with all of the points raised, but it was only a couple. So, this article gets a thumbs-up. True, the "new days" aren't all that bad, but there were some things that we lost from the old days too. Both sides have their valid points I think.

A lot of those TV shows, movies, video games, music, and other stuff. Shrek and Happy Feet were both good movies to watch. I might also watch "Shrek the Halls" which airs on ABC this Wednesday.

I absolutly loved Spyro the Dragon on Playstation (and I still do). It's a great game to play. I also like the Mario Party and Super Smash Bros series. I cannot wait until Super Smash Bros Brawl comes out, it's gonna be so good I just want to run out of my home the very day it comes out and speed into the mall (like Sonic would) and pick up a copy of SSBB.

Youtube is pretty good too. I have my own youtube account. I haven't uploaded much on there, basically episodes of Donkey Kong Country. I did have a Myspace account but my Mom had me delete it because she didn't like it. Oh well. The Angry Video Game Nerd is hilarious. I especailly loved his reviews. Speaking of AVGN, anybody watched his recent "Dragon's Lair" review, LOL that game was really difficult. I might also get AVGN on DVD.

I agree that some things from recent years do have their moments. But lately so much crap has been churned out, it's practically become the embodiment of some people's willingness to do anything to make a profit. And I'm sorry to say I'm ashamed of this era for that.

I absolutely agree with you without any differences. To tell the truth, some ppl are truly dick-faced assholes who don't give crap about nostolgia. Here's one thing: I DO care about the past particularly because of the rapid changes in culture and technology going on today yet many people my age are so immature online and off that with the way they bash nostalgia they should suck a horse's cock because of such. In other words, I joined Retrojunk because I actaully care.

A lot of people think the late 1990's aren't retro. Even though, they technically are retro, they don't feel that different from the 2000's. I'm one of those people who thinks that.

What I do notice is that Retro Junk users are getting younger and younger. Nothing against this, but it just feels that way as I look at the topics on the forums and see stuff about Pokemon and Cartoon Cartoons and people calling them "old school" and "retro". I don't think most of the stuff from the late 1990's is that different from the stuff on now. Not hating on it, but that's how I feel.

We do have a right to be nostaglic, anyone who thinks otherwise is just an idiot or must of had a bad childhood or something.

Eventually, the kids of today will be on here feeling nostaglic about the things that most of the people on here despise.
